MAC – Brunette, Blonde, Redhead

January 20, 2009 | By: stef

I have been more excited for this collection than any recent MAC release. Originally titled Hair, it’s so simple-it’s genius. Three perfectly personalized palettes to match your hair color. Sometimes you don’t need all the bells and whistles, you know? Just give me beautiful, wearable colors. I got exactly that with this line.

.
Here’s my haul, Top-Redhead: Red Devil lip glass (coral orange) Bottom-Brunette: Femme Fi e/s (frosty golden cream, veluxe pearl), Henna e/s (dark gold, veluxe pearl), Redhead: Marquise D’ lipstick (sandy cream peach, lustre) and Soft Wave lip glass (tan bronze).

Did you notice anything about that? I didn’t buy anything for blondes! The blonde shadows were gorgeous (the stand out is Pincurl, a light grey with a hint of pink opal to it), the lips were pretty and pink, pink, PINK! (I’m probably going back for All’s Fair, a medium purplish pink) But I found I was really drawn to the other 2 collections. Maybe MAC somehow knows I dye my hair?

As for what I did get, Red Devil is a shade I buy over and over and over again. Christy asked “don’t you have a color like that?” Uh, of course I do! But I need this one too. (When will my friends learn not to question my lip gloss purchases?) And I am in love with Marquise D’, with it’s super fine gold shimmer. With a dollop of Soft Wave over top, this is the most lush and perfect nude lip ever.

This release also has 3 brushes in the line-up. The ONLY reason I didn’t leave with all 3 is that were sold out! The 165 highlighter brush is great, kind of like a giant eye shadow brush, tapered and fluffy. It puts blush EXACTLY where you want it. But it’s the 2 eye brushes that had me at hello. 214 is a stubby shader, perfect for smokey liner or for densely shading lids. And 226 is a small and precise crease brush that is absolute perfection. 2 of these limited edition (along with everything in this collection except for the eyeliners and brow gels), so snatch them up quickly.

There are also 3 Mineralize Skinfinish powders (MSF’s to those in the know). People go crazy for these, big collector’s items. These are called “degrade” which is powder highlighter in stripes of 4 shades. I thought the Redhead was the prettiest (a peachy-pink), but honestly I’m not a big highlighter lover, much to the dismay of my MA who was ga-ga for these. I relived the look of disbelief in her eyes all night long as I walked out without one. I ordered it the next day…

I have been hearing various beauty bloggers complain that they didn’t see much new with this line. And while it’s true, if your a MAC addict, you may own similar colors already. (Check out Christine’s detailed color by color description and comparison over at Temptalia.) But I think for the average MAC user, you will be very happy with this beautiful collection. I am!

I think I bought all the blonde that was meant for you! I bought the whole look. Pincurl is amazing. Knight is this deep, shimmery charcoal. Top Knot is a black with dark purple shimmer that makes a pretty liner. And I bought the All’s Fair lipstick-I think you do need it!
I liked this release a lot.

Girl, I should have known better than to question your lip-gloss purchase =) ha ha! I must say the color was gorgeous. I think I want to go buy Red Devil now. I keep thinking about it!

I absolutely love this collection, especially the Blonde Limited-edition Mineralize Skinfinish! It’s the perfect hint of pink for those of us with fair skin! & that short shader brush is the ultimate smudge tool. It’s my new go to brush!

The Brow Set is pretty fabulous too, and something I hadn’t tried from MAC before & am glad to have finally given it a go! It just shapes the brow without making them look stiff & unnatural. Very subtle & effective.

All of the eye shadows in this collection are very delicate and lovely. It’s a very flattering collection with colors you can really reach for any day of the week!

I’m a total sucker for special edition sets and I wish I went on this shopping trip with you! Looking at your pics and reading your thoughts, i think my favorite is the Henna eye shadow in dark gold – I love the colors, not quite brown, not quite kahki and with some nice shimmer. How does it work with blue eyes? I’m already a brunette, so that’s half the battle!

PS Three lip products? Really?

I love the fact that the word dollop has shown up on this site twice in the last 48hours or so. LOL at the PS T. I thought the same thing. I swear they could do some sort of study on Stef. You know like the mouse with the cheese. No matter how many times the cheese zaps the mouse it keeps going for the cheese because it just has to have it.
