Weekly love list – love songs

wht love song compilation

It’s a week before Valentine’s day and we’re feeling all lovey dovey! Here’s a wht compilation of some traditional and not so traditional songs about amore.

Love me Tender – Elvis Presley
Stef: I think this is the most romantic song ever written, sung by Elvis in his dreamboat prime.
Do You Wanna Touch Me? – Joan Jett
Stef: Tough Rocker chicks need love too! And though I prefer the Gary Glitter original even more, I can’t knowingly use him on a love song compilation…
I’m Always in Love – Wilco
Tyna: I’m not even sure what Jeff Tweedy is trying to convey in this song, but I will always be in love with this bright, happy tune (musically at least) on the best Wilco album ever.
Disco 2000 – Pulp
Stef: Oh, this song gets me every time! The nerdy boy tells the popular girl neighbor to meet him when they’re old and he’ll still love her.
Do You Love Me Know – The Breeders
Tyna: So pretty (the harmonies!) and so sad – Kim Deal bores a hole in your heart as she laments a lost love.
Strange Currencies – REM
Stef: This is really Tyna’s territory (she’s a huge fan), but I don’t think anyone does love and longing like Michael Stipe. (You picked a good one, it’s highly underrated in my opinion ~t)
I’m Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes – The Carter Family
Tyna: The most sad and blue love song you’ll ever listen to over and over again.
Ring of Fire – Johnny Cash
Stef: The Man in black backed by Mariachis, singing about love so hot it burns.
True Love Waits – Radiohead
Tyna: Completely sappy and sickly sweet but it’s all cool, because Radiohead can do no wrong. This song makes me swoon.

Cool tags! I love a lot of those songs as well, especially the Joan Jett and the Breeders!

So I quickly read this post early this morn’ but I didn’t have time to comment.  Love the Do You Wanna Touch song and didn’t know that Gary Glitter was the original and now it kinda grosses me out.  I’m pretty sure he is no longer allowed to use the internet by law at this point so I don’t think he will be offended and frankly I don’t care if he is.  I have to agree Stef Love Me Tender is hands down the winner.  Right now I’m totally addicted to Adele’s To Make You Feel My Love.  Great list girls.

I love Social Distortion’s version of “Ring of Fire”…that is an awesome playlist.  I do believe that you ladies overlooked a classic love song. Never were truer words of love spoken than in the Bell Biv Devoe song “Do Me”.  (When my sister got married, I put this on the wedding cd I made her…oh, yeahhhhh…) If “smack it up, flip it, rub it down, oh noooooo” are not the words of a poet, I don’t know what is…
