Weekly love list – new music

Stef loves: new music! I haven’t bought any new music in the last few months, there just hasn’t been anything really moving me. Thankfully, the last few weeks have got me excited for quite a few new releases and my Amazon cart is ready to check out! I can’t wait to get U2 – No Line On The Horizon.I’ve always liked U2, but they lost me a bit in their “Lemon” stage. From what I’ve heard so far, I think they may have me back again. Other items in my cart? Franz Ferdinand – Tonight. It’s been a long time since their 2nd album was released in 2005. I’m sure I will be having a long over due dance party when I get this in my stereo. And although not new, I also think I need to purchase the 20th anniversary edition of Beastie Boys – Paul’s Boutique. (holy hell, 20 years? how’d that happen?) One of my top 10 favorite albums of all time, the original, made back in the day when samples were free and taken from all sorts of sources, was literally all over the board as far as sound went. This remastered version is supposed to be amazing, and a must for any fan.

Tyna loves: new music as well, especially singles! I love that buying music online has caused a resurgence of the classic single. For a buck you can get any song – an oldie that’s been rolling through your head or something from a new band you’ve never purchased before. Downloading a couple of songs early on a Friday evening gives me instant, cheap gratification. My picks this week:

M. Ward - Hold Time - Rave On (feat. Zooey Deschanel) M. Ward – Rave On
A lo-fi slash country cover of Buddy Holly’s Rave On – addicting.

Röyksopp - Happy Up Here - Single - Happy Up Here Royksopp – Happy Up Here

Discover this Norwegian duo making happy, quirky electronica.

Gabriella Cilmi - Lessons to Be Learned - Sweet About Me Gabriella Cilmi – Sweet About Me
An Aussie girl based in England singing sweet, snazzy jazz and making pure pop.

Rufus Wainwright - Poses - Grey Gardens Rufus Wainwright – Grey Gardens
Keep the excitement brewing until the Grey Gardens premiere by downloading this charming ode to the Beales.
