This week I love a good reason to party! The national launch of the fine beverage magazine Mutineer held at the swank, Hollywood nightspot, Falcon was a great reason to get me out of the house on a Monday night! We have been watching these friends of our friend, wht member Sherri, from the launch of their entertaining, highly readable magazine in summer of 2008. After five issues, they have made the leap to national publication (get your copy at Barnes & Noble or Borders). To celebrate, they threw a lavish and lively party hosted by Zane Lamprey (of the travel show Three Sheets), complete with a red carpet, popping flashbulbs, a hip dj (Hunter Lea) spinning tunes, delicious hors devours and most importantly, liberal amounts of liquids being poured and sampled by fellow beverage enthusiasts.
Party guests were encouraged to sample as many different types of beer, wine and soda as they could handle and Bronwen and I gave it a good go! Alas, even after four hours of sipping, sniffing and chatting, we unable to hit every table but we had a blast trying! We walked way with a few favorites including J Wine for their ridiculously good, sparkling white wine (we sampled the J Brut Rose), and from Sacre Bleu, a smooth and rich, almost too drinkable, Pinot Noir. I tore myself away from the wines to test a number of unique beers offered from breweries large and small, yet Chimay’s Blue Label entered and exited the night at the top of my favorite beer list. Oh and I also made a whole new discovery in Sake2me – a bottled blend of sake and sparkling Asian flavors that I can’t wait to break out this summer. We tested each of the four fabulous flavors and decided the Green Tea was our fave, with the lemony Yuzu Citrus a close second.
It wasn’t all gluttony, as Mutineer also hosted a silent auction with proceeds benefiting AIDS/Lifecycle, an organization that hosts a 7-day bike from San Francisco to Los Angeles, to raise funds and awareness in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Some amazing items up were up for auction, including magnums of wine, hair and beauty baskets, Tumbler & Tipsy clothing, wine racks and even an absinthe fountain (oh boy, that’s just asking for trouble in my house). I was the very excited winner of a haircut and color from the exclusive Juan Juan Salon in Beverly Hills. (I promise, all the details on my trip to this to-die-for salon and my new summer look in an upcoming post.)
We exited the event, a little sleepy and little tipsy and very happy. Thanks to the brilliant minds behind Mutineer for a fantastic night benefiting a great cause!
