Hey Baby, it’s the 4th of July
You just have to make it through one more work week until the big 4th of July celebration weekend – and we all know you’re cutting out early on Friday, if you bother to go in to the office. Are you ready for summer’s best and biggest holiday? We’ve gathered some last minute Independence Day ideas and inspirations, so you can celebrate with a bang!
First up, the perfect outfit. Show your independence by putting a modern twist on the traditional red, white and blue with the Rose Water Maxi Dress from ModCloth. This floor length, halter-top dress can take you from afternoon barbeque to twilight fireworks to late night dancing and more! Like all ModCloth offerings, the dress offers solid quality at a decent price and the unique style, cut and color guarantees the dress will stand out in the crowd!
If the maxi is dress is not your style, here’s another option. We think a white tank top or summery blouse paired with either the Bluebell Skirt or Uptown Shorts
and a pair of red Converse
kicks would make a smashing alternative!
Next up, the food and drink. From cocktails to burgers to cold salads we’ve already shared our absolute favorite summertime specialties on the site. I can’t think of a better occasion to break out the wht signature drink, the Party Palmer then this weekend. This refreshing and delicious mix of two summer staples (ice tea and lemonade) with a healthy splash of vodka (that’s the party) is always a hit.
If you’re breaking out the barbeque (and really, it’s now or never, right?) we have two fantastic updates to the American classic, the hamburger (and info on how to make them veggie). Add a little Thanksgiving to your feast with the Apple, Cheddar & Cranberry Turkey Burgers – what could be more patriotic? (Hint: prepare all the cold toppings the day before and store in the fridge, show guest how to properly layer their burgers fresh with a buffet style serving of the toppings) Or, surprise guests with our Stuffed Burger Recipe, cheesy with a bit of a kick and perfect for grilling (and so much tidier then melting cheese on top!)
If you need to bring a cold dish to an outdoor party, everyone (even Jerry) will adore this bowl of the best summer veggies – the Corn, Avocado and Tomato Salad first introduced in our Grey Gardens theme party post.
If you’re searching for a dessert idea, here’s a way to steer clear of sugary, fatty treats and wow kids and adults alike with a Watermelon Basket of Fresh Fruit. This step-by-step guide over at Craftster has all you need to create a yummy and distinctive display of summers fruits.
Finally, if you can’t arrange for an ice cream truck to show at your party, here’s the cutest party favor ever! The 4th of July soapsicles (right) are popsicle shaped soaps that look just like the beloved Bomb Pops (or Rocket Pops) of my youth. Discovered on etsy (of course), for $4 a pop, (discounts on bulk orders), they can be delivered with customized labels just for your 4th of July celebration.
Check back later in the week for our we heart this 4th of July music playlist! How do you plan to celebrate the holiday? Tell us all about the food, drink or outfit in the comments!

I have already planned to make the stuffed burgers and the Corn, avocado and tomato salad! I’m also planning to make my famous (an super easy) Guacamole and make a fruit salad. I’m so excited! This will be the first time that I have entertained at my place so I hope it goes well!
Now to find the perfect outfit…
Oh yeah and how can I forget the oh so wonderful Party Palmer drink!?!?! That will for sure be making an appearance!
Big pool party in our backyard this year with lots of friends! Plus, I have a new friend from France staying with us for three weeks so he’s got to bone up on his English!
Pulled pork, spinach & tortellini pasta salad, cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, avocado & jicama chopped salad, fruit tarte, beer, wine, margaritas and some sparklers!!
Very cute dress! I could rock that with a Party Palmer in hand for sure.
I love the maxi dress! I don’t know why, but I always end up wearing some sort of combo of red and white stripes, blue and white stripes, or red and blue stripes and I end up looking like either a deranged sailor or a really patriotic convict. What’s up with that?
I’d say the 4th is probably one of my fave holidays! Cute sundress, fireworks, swimming, cocktails and no fuss foods. The odd thing is though I get hurt almost every year on or around 7/4. The really strange thing is that I usually hurt my left hand. Thankfully I’ve already had my left hand injury, it occured Thursday, required a trip to the ER but at least now I know I’ll be ok on saturday. Party palmers are being served at my house Saturday evening!
Hey We Heart This!! Thank you so much again, for involving our products on your site! I think that dress is perfect for celebrating this weekend as well! But I just ordered- http://www.modcloth.com/store//ModCloth/Made+in+the+USA/Pixelated+Princess+Dress
It is not very patriotic but I love it none the less!

Mandy, what an adorable dress! You guys have the cutest stuff, so reasonably priced too. I’m always amazed.
As far as it not being patriotic, just carry a sparkler! Problem solved.

Susan! Oh no, what happened this time!? You should be locked in a cage this time of year – like a shewolf! It’s for your protection. Cori and Katie – your parties sound awesome! Mandy – I love the that dress – very grey gardens in it’s heyday to me – thanks for saying Hi!

I’ll be on a ranch somewhere between Dallas and Oklahoma lounging by the pool all day and watching the best fireworks show ever that night. My in-laws do the most amazing fireworks show every year at their place. We layout blankets and have the whole show just to ourselves out in the middle of the country. I’ll also be sipping my new favorite drink thanks to this site…Arnold Palmers. I’ve become very addicted
I’m so ready for a holiday!
I’m so glad everyone is pouring the Party Palmers this weekend! Happy we could share.

Eveyone’s party Palmer weekends sound fab!
Have a fun and safe 4the everyone
You’re never going to guess. I got bit….by Winslow! It was bad and hurt like crazy. Still in a splint and hoping it closes soon. They won’t stitch it because it’s an animal bite. Such is life, at least I can have some cocktails even on my antibiotic. I love those dresses. Since I’m down a hand, anything that slips on easily is great for me. Buttons and I don’t get along to well right now. Hope eveyone has a happy and safe 4th!
Susan, Winslow? That’s awful. What did you do to make him bite you, were you dressing him up or something?

He bit me because I was trying to bond him and Wednesday. He got scared and went to bite Wednesday and I put my hand in between to block them. Only thing that stopped him from going through my finger was my bone. 6lbs of bunny literally hanging off my finger. Needless to say I’m done trying to get him to like Wednesday.
