YouTube week – The Phenomenons
Ah, the YouTube phenomenons (also known as a Meme). The videos that just go viral mad. You know the ones that when you try to explain them to someone, they sound ridiculous and not at all funny? Yeah, those. Well we love ‘em. We’re going to bring you a new favorite and some classics that never cease to crack us up.
Stef’s pick: Play him off, Keyboard Cat, the quintessential YouTube phenomenon. First comes Fatso, the keyboard playing cat. Rather funny on his own. But combine him with awkward, sometimes awful events and hilarity ensues. There are hundreds of these. Here’s my favorite, showing angsty teen Scott having a meltdown online (on his “freakin’ channel”) making an ass out of himself for all eternity. I happen to agree with Scott, parents don’t understand. But Keyboard Cat does…
Tyna’s pick: I had a long list of possibilities here, but just couldn’t get it down to that one perfect video. Then I remembered what a lifetime of watching movies has taught me – montages make a good thing even better! Enjoy this medley We Didn’t Start the Viral, a who’s who of viral phenoms set to a parody of the Billy Joel (semi) classic “We Didn’t Start the Fire”.
Honorable mentions: Before there was Keyboard Cat, we had Spaghetti Cat. And because the viral montage made us want to see the entire Ok Go treadmill routine, Here It Goes Again. Plus, some other classics; Chocolate Rain and The Dramatic Chipmunk.

Oh my god, that play him off keyboard clip is too funny!! I wonder where the clip of the boy is from? Wow, you have to love YouTube. Thanks for finding this so I didn’t have to!
Word on the internet is the crying boy is a big fan of the San Jose Sharks – he’s crying after they lost in the first round of the playoffs (the Sharks were the #1 seed they should have easily won).
Poor boy – I feel his pain (but do my hockey crying in private!)

OMG T, he was totally talking about hockey. Through his tears he says “they had this!” That makes it 100 times funnier.
