While the calendar says it’s time to start thinking fall fashions, the still warm temperatures are dictating my wardrobe. Happily, I can still shop for some new fall accessories and this Etsy 4 for Friday takes a look at an item that is always at the top of my list; the everyday bag. It’s been some years since I’ve gone “back to school” in the fall (repeated viewings of said Rodney Dangerfield classic do not count), yet I always yearn for a new, all-purpose bag this time of year.

What better time to pay a visit to the Moop store on etsy. I’ve been a fan of this gorgeous collection of handcrafted bags produced by indie crafter/entrepreneur Wendy Downs for years. Designed for men, women and children, these fashionable and versatile bags have become a cult favorite with savvy online shoppers. The bags are crafted with an eye towards functionality, durability and style and are manufactured from start to finish by hand in the Moop studio. We’re congratulating Moop on their recent family move to Pittsburgh and the opening of a new Moop studio with a look at four must have bags for fall from the Moop collection:

The Market Bag in gunmetal gray (top left) – The name says it all. A roomy, all purpose bag for toting to the farmers market, the mall, the supermarket or on any of your daily errands. Fits everything from laptops to books and features multiple pockets and adjustable straps.

The Letter Bag in black (top right) – A bit of structure adds some bookish charm to this square bag designed for carrying correspondence of the analog and digital sort. Featuring designated spaces for your iPod, a pencil slip and a few paperbacks or steno pads, this bag is a writers dream.

The Tote in rosewood (bottom right) – Again, the name says it all. This medium sized tote with double handles and a (removable) shoulder strap is just right for carrying to the office and keeping everything that you need – wallet, sunglasses, keys, cell phone, even a 13″ laptop – in one perfectly sized bag.

The Bookbag for Kids (bottom left) – A sweet and sturdy bag for boys or girls constructed from brushed cotton canvas, so it resists stains and can be thrown in the washing machine when needed. Features an across the shoulder, adjustable strap and lots of roomy pockets and two d-rings to hold everything for school in one place.

  1. Good Lord, fall fashion? I have yet to recover from Summer Fashion!!! :)

Excellent review of bags, btw. My kids are now using messenger bags instead of backpacks for school.

  2. It’s true Barbara! Everywhere i look in the media they’re talking fall fashion (scarves and jackets and boots, etc) while I am still wearing tank tops and flip flops.

I love messenger bags – so much more comfortable than standard backpacks and easier to carry and get into the bag at the same time. Are you celebrating sending the kids back to school?
