Weekly Deal-lights – Emmy edition

September 20, 2009 | By: Stef

emmyWe’re all a-flutter for the Emmys tonight, the one night a year that melts the TV drama and comedy world into one big red carpet/designer dress/acceptance speech ball of happiness. We have our definite favorites. And if you’re a regular reader, it will be no surprise for whom we are rooting (um, like yesterday’s post). Why not pick up a steal at Amazon and get caught up on the best TV has to offer?

First, the one we know. At the Creative Arts Emmys (aka the Schmemmys) given out earlier this week Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (by Tyna’s hero Joss Whedon) took home Outstanding Special Class — Short Format Live-Action Entertainment Program (whew, that’s a mouthful!)

30 Rock:
Lead actor and actress in a comedy series – Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey
Supporting actor and actress in a comedy series – Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer and Jane Krakowski

Mad Men:
Lead actor and actress in a drama series – Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss
Supporting actor in a drama series – John Slattery

(By the way, 30 Rock and Mad Men have a total of 38 Emmy nominations between them!)

And could there be more women we heart up for awards this year? In addition to Jane Krakowski, nominations for Outstanding Supporting actor and actress in a comedy series include Amy Poehler and Kristin Wiig for Saturday Night Live and Kristin Chenoweth for Pushing Daisies.

Grey Gardens:
Outstanding Lead actress in a miniseries or movie – Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange (Eghads, how are they going to pick that?)

Oooo I’m routing for Kristin Chenoweth, I loved Pushing Daisies!!!
Wow how do you vote between Big and Little Edie.. Ahhhhh
Can there be an Emmy Tie?!! They were both amazing!!
I hope Big and Little Edie are looking down from Heaven with loads of Heavenly Kitty Cats watching!!!

  2. Kristen better get an Emmy for PD. And, I just read the best thing ever over on EW’s homepage:

“Sources confirm to me exclusively that host Neil Patrick Harris will headline a Dr. Horrible-themed production number about midway through Sunday’s Emmy ceremony.”

    Whoot! I can not wait!

  3. I thought NPH did a great job hosting. I enjoyed the opening number. I was happy about most of the people who won, I wasn’t so sure about John Cryer winning though. I also really enjoyed the announcer, he was funny. Jessica winning was great and Drew was so happy for her. I heard a number of people comment that this is a era in television and Jessica said, sometimes the better roles are on TV. I like all the options TV is giving me lately. Overall I was glued to the ceremony.

  4. I totally enjoyed last nights show. First of all, I thought NPH was fabulous – love to see him sing, adored the Dr. Horrible scene and how adorable was it when they showed him in the audience during the noms for BSA and he was sitting with his adorable boyfriend?

My fave acceptance speech was Kristen Chenowith’s – she was so surprised and truly happy – she got me all misty eyed! Also, hooray for GG doing so well – so deserved. Loved hearing the Maysle’s and the Beale’s getting some love during the speeches.
