The random knowledge and useful tips we picked up along the way this week:

• Halloween is over for the year, yet you’re still knee-deep in pumpkins? Check out Happy Mundane for a guide to making Pop Art Centerpieces (pictured at left) just in time for your leftover squashes. What a striking way to lengthen the life and liven up your décor with pumpkins!

• Chilly mornings call for a piping hot breakfast (with lots of coffee) and sadly, I always botch the eggs! Not anymore as Serious Eats shows us all How To Cook the Perfect Boiled Eggs with a methodically researched guide covering cooking times, temperature timelines, the ratio of eggs per pot and more. Take one look at these lovingly photographed, perfectly prepared eggs and you’ll be scrambling (ha) for that dozen in your fridge.

• Here’s another warm, yummy treat for fall and now we’re talking chocolate! The Big Red Kitchen offers the simple to make, but impressive to serve Soft Pretzel Samoas that are covered in caramel and drizzled with chocolate. Mmmm…

• Finally, I learned I need to make my purchases now to take advantage of this years Friends and Family Event at Sephora. Time sure flies and there’s only two more days to get 20% everything in your cart!
