The random knowledge and useful tips we picked up along the way this week:

• Whether you’re striving for crisp and clean modern look or reside in an apartment with un-paintable walls, decorating with white can be a daunting task. We found a chic, friendly muse at Living With White, the latest venture from décor duo, Vish and Asia, the founders of FOKaL (a modern design and home décor haven). Living With White offers design inspirations and home furnishings (like the white wall applications from Inhabit [above left] and the Paper Chandelier [right] from moooi) for those who are passionate about white décor. Or as their header proclaims, “Some say those that love white are afraid of color. We feel those that love color just might be afraid of white!”

• Leave it to the South Coast Plaza, what we like to call, “The Happiest Shopping Place on Earth” to offer the hottest, most anticipated shoe line of the season, Jimmy Choo for H&M. Yep, our friends over at the SCP were some of the very first to be able to get their hands on this immensely coveted collection as the SCP H&M (in the Bloomingdale’s wing) began selling the limited line on a first-come-first-gets basis today. Hope to hear some reports on this chic, punk rock (think Debbie Harry) inspired collection. Did any wht readers get their hands on something from Jimmy?

Dr.MartensJennyBoots• And I may be years behind on this trend, but I finally broke down and picked up some Ugg inspired footwear. I resisted for years, but these Dr. Martens “Jenny” boots finally wore me down. I love the classic yellow stitching, rubber soles and western touches that gives these boots some edge. And just as my friends have claimed for years, the moccasin influences (this pair has a faux shearling lining) make these the most comfy boots ever. I think I’ll be wearing my black pair everyday until spring arrives.

Bonus: Take advantage of the Online Something Extra Sale at Macy’s and get 20% off the Dr. Marten Jenny boots. Plus, save 10%, 15% or 20% off everything you order! Click here and use Code SAVEMORE during checkout. Good only through November 15th!

• In the I-Desperately-Want-This-Now Department, the always in the know Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog introduced me to Too Faced’s LASHLIGHT Mascara – a lengthening, thickening, glossing mascara with LED lights in the base of the wand!

• Finally, the so craptastic it’s great, 70’s skating classic Ice Castles is getting a remake! I’m not sure that it’s necessary, but if this trailer is any indication, they got the craptastic part just right! (Excuse the video quality, it’s the only clip I could find). Here’s hoping for a Robbie Benson cameo!

  1. Katie Learned This:

    1. Never allow Zena near any rodent that happens to be black with a white stripe. The after effects are NOT pleasant. Two stripes are okay; one is not.

    2. There is nothing more valuable than unearthing the recipe for my family’s traditional German spritz cookies and peanut butter cookies just in time for the holiday season. I’m in charge of baking cookies.

    3. Being able to spend money on a scarf you’ve been dying to purchase for months feels really good. I can’t wait until it comes in the mail.

    4. Tillamook Colby Jack Cheese = Yummy.

    5. Stir fry made with green peppers, onions, limes and lots of water chestnuts seems to be the family favorite at the moment.

  2. I’ve learned not to go near the long lines at SCP after working there for 20 years, come this this Nov 20th. Even if it’s a steal at H&M.. but you can bet it’s a mad house and people are getting what they came for! I’ll wait to hear about just how it all went down tomorrow morning when we get the skinny! What we women will do for Jimmy Choo shoes!

  3. I saw the Doc Marten Jenny’s this week, totally cute. I still wear my Doc’s from 1990, that shows you what a well built shoe they are.

I’m sad there’s no Mad Men tonight!!! How good was that finale last week? Bring on free and sexy Don! (I know that has nothing to do with this post but I just had to say it.)

  4. OMG, I loved “Ice Castles”—it was cheesetastic! Now I want some crackers…

  5. “Ice Castles” was totally wonderfully cheesetastic! ha :) & Stef I’m with you about Mad Men & Docs.. they last FOREVER! great shoes!!

  6. I think I know most of the words to Ice Castles. The song was our sisters wedding song. She still has it on VHS and I think one of us it may have gotten it for her on DVD. Now I want to watch it.
Those boots are great T, I myself jumped on the UGG inspired bandwagon the other day too. The good thing about the Docs is they are way better for those of us with bad ankles vs UGGs.

  7. Stef I haven’t watched the final episode of Mad Men yet…I think I’m still two behind. Hope it’s a good one! Now back on topic…those Jenny boots are so cute and practical. I think I need to add those to my wish list. I can’t believe they are remaking Ice Castles. I LOVED that movie! I wanted to ice skate sooo bad, but we don’t have a lot of that in Texas. I used to pretend on my roller skates that I was the girl from that movie. Off to watch the remake trailer!
