Deserving Thyme Mega Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion

Deserving-Thyme-HandBody Welcome to 2010 we heart this readers! We’re back and ready to go with all sorts of ideas to make this year our best yet. We’re kicking things off with our latest Green Monday installment and today we have a review of one of the yummiest, spa specialty lines out there, Deserving Thyme.

Living in Palm Springs gives Stef access to all sorts of luscious speciality and spa brands. Her most exciting find was this naturally fabulous, eco-conscious line of bath and body treats. Seriously, their Brown Sugar Scrub is to die for. And as a lip balm junkie, that has tested hundreds of brands, the Deserving Thyme Lip Care Balm with SPF 15 makes my Top Three Favorite Balms Ever List without a doubt. Here’s wht member Lesley to give you the low down on Deserving Thyme and their Mega Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion. ~Tyna

At this cooler time of year (yes, even in LA!), just when we need to take extra care of ourselves, it can be hard to find the time to maintain our regular grooming routines. What with partying and shopping (not to mention working and going to the gym), it’s difficult to keep up, and before you know it, it’s all gone to hell in a handbasket and you’re dealing with cracked heels, chapped lips and crepey thighs.

So the Mega Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion ($22), part of the Canadian company’s aromatherapy line, couldn’t have arrived at a more opportune moment. My parched skin was crying out for some TLC. There are two versions of this lotion: the Lemon, Lavender and Rosemary, and the Orange, Tangerine & Mandarin, which is the one I tested.

I’d never tried this brand before, but I’m a sucker for anything with the word “natural” in the blurb. According to the press release, Deserving Thyme, which also makes soaps, candles, linen sprays and more, “reflects a healthy attitude towards body care… [and] strives to produce products that offer real benefits and continually researches the newest botanicals and natural ingredients to ensure a responsive and responsible product line.”

The Mega Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion, like all Deserving Thyme items, is made with pure essential oils, plant extracts and antioxidant-rich vitamins. All oils are 100% aromatherapy grade Essential Oils and therefor are potently scented, as well as highly reparative and extremely nourishing for the skin.

You will also find Deserving Thyme uses plenty of Vitamins A and E which helps to protect skin cells and collagen. As expected from a green line, Deserving Thyme products contain no common allergens, comedogenic (pore clogging) materials or synthetic colors. And of course, their products are not tested on animals.

The pump-top bottle itself is nothing special, and the labeling is pretty straightforward, so it’s safe to say that most of the money has gone into the product rather than the packaging. And, as endearing as fancy fonts and pretty bows are, I’d say that’s a good thing.

The lotion has a nice consistency: It’s very fluid, and sinks in easily. Nonetheless, it packs a moisturizing punch, thanks to the addition of shea butter, not to mention meadowfoam, sweet almond, green tea and cucumber. (Should I be eating this rather than slapping it on my body?)

And, boy, the scent! Believe me, you will smell citrusy (tangerine, in particular, lingers a while). If you like the whiff, then great, this really will make you stand out from the crowd. If not, you’re out of luck. Personally, I like the fragrance, although I think it’s more suited to the summertime. If you’re in need of a mid-winter pick-me-up, this is your scent!

I gotta say, I really love this line. And it’s all down to what Lesley called “the Whiff”! A lot of their products smell similar to their Orange, Tangerine & Mandarin body lotion (which is what I chose to test). The Brown Sugar Scrub and the Lip Balm that Tyna mentions above both are very familiar in scent.

I find it absolutely divine. It’s a yummy, sugary orange smell (which I much prefer to lemon or lime, who get most of the citrus glory!) And as Lesley also mentions, the smell stays with you. I don’t find it overpowering, but you know it’s there.

The lotion itself is really nice. Very moisturizing, more so than many lotions, but not as much as a butter. So it sinks in quickly and leaves you feeling really quenched, not greasy (like butters can).

4 stars from me, with only one deducted for price. It’s a tiny bit pricey for a smallish bottle ($22 for 8 oz). But I do, and will continue to happily buy from this line. Just try the lip balm, you’ll be a fan for life!

I got to try the Lavender, Lemon, and Rosemary. The three scents mix really well together. It’s a nice fresh scent and not overpowering in the citrus area. I do feel it is more of a spring/summer scent because it’s just so fresh and airy.

I do have eczema and have been told by doctors to stay away from scented lotions that have synthetic colours or fragrances. So I was very excited to see that this lotion didn’t use synthetic products! The fragrance doesn’t flare up my eczema but rather soothes it. They does use chamomile and red clover which help sooth the skin and helps with dryness.

I also like how it sinks into the skin without an oily leftover feel. I hate it when I put a lotion and and then anything I touch looks like Slimer from Ghostbusters has been there.

It gets 4 stars from me, I do agree with Stef, it’s a bit pricey. But when it’s a smell good lotion that doesn’t flare up my eczema I’ll use it again!

Mmm, one of my favorite scents in all of beauty is the Orange, Tangerine & Mandarin blend from Deserving Thyme! Stef first discovered this brand in the above referenced Lip Care Balm and it really is the best ever! I wish I could find it a little easier, because I would have 50 tubes of it all over my house, office, etc. Oh and I truly love the Brown Sugar Scrub in the same scent – imo it’s better then the Fresh version – and that’s saying something!

As mentioned, this lotion is not as thick and heavy as a butter, but it is very moisturizing and protective. I’ve had the driest hands ever and have been using super heavy creams and balms. I noticed that when I started using my Deserving Thyme Hand & Body Lotion, my hands felt just as soothed and moisturized as with heavier creams. And for some reason those effects seem to last longer – hooray!

I’m going with 4 stars for this lotion. A very nice lotion – minus one point as it’s a teeny bit pricey and I wish the whole line was easier to find!

I tried the Mega Moisturizing Hand & Body Lotion. One of the most hydrating hand lotions I’ve tried in awhile. And the sweet Orange, Tangerine & Mandarin scent is a bonus.
My hands were having a serious dry spell before testing this so it was the perfect chance to see how well it really worked, and I have to report it was
a five star moisturizer! It really nourished my hands and brought them back to life. I used it sparingly as a body moisturizer to save it for my hands!
I will say the scent is lovely, but had I used it on my whole body, I think it would have been really overpowering.
All in all a five star vote from me.
I’ve also tried their Brown Sugar Scrub and it is one of my all time favorite sugar scrubs, really leaves your skin incredibly smooth.
    This line is fantastic.
