Mattése Elite Lipstick review

It’s known around these parts that I am a gloss girl through and through. But, I just met a lipstick that may give gloss a run for it’s money! And I’ll tell you exactly how it happened…

It was a typical day at wht headquarters, researching and reviewing (i.e. watching TV and playing with makeup) when a box came from a line I had never heard of before: Mattése Elite. In it was the most interesting range of lipstick shades I think we’ve ever received. Usually, the ends of the spectrum aren’t so represented (light and dark). It’s usually a sea of pink, with a few scattered peachy-shades, maybe a red, maybe one nude. But the Mattése Elite package was different; several nudes, numerous gothy-darks, with the usual shades being in the minority (and especially vibrant versions at that). They got my attention right away, the sleek black cases furthering my interest.

But the true joy here is in the formula. Full coverage and lots of shine (dare I say glossy?) But also, a texture that actually feels good on your lips, almost balm-like. The hydrating feel comes from the ingredient hyaluronic acid, something often used in wrinkle filler products. Makes sense as there was none of the dry feeling often associated with lipstick; just a smooth, creamy, plump sort-of feeling.

Lucky New Yorkers are probably already very familiar with the line, as it’s exclusive to Ricky’s NYC. With 22 New York locations and one in Miami (could LA be next? Please-o-please!) Mattése Elite is just one of the reasons Vogue called this East Coast institution “A cosmetics junkie’s paradise”.

For those of us not blessed enough to just pop in, you can purchase the lipsticks (and the entire line) from RickysNYC.com. They’d be a bargain at $10 if they were even half as good. But $10 and fabulous? I’m sold!

Review Team, were you as impressed as me? Anyone else familiar with Mattése Elite? What should we try next? I hear good things about their nail polishes too…

If you couldn’t tell already, I’m loving this lipstick! The feel of these on your lips is incredible, so creamy. It feels like you have chapstick on instead of lipstick.

As I said, the color range is fabulous too. Really fashion forward, without being so trendy that you know you’ll only wear it a few times (black, I’m looking at you.)

I choose Provocative, a deep hot pick with a touch of purple. (I do wish Ricky’s site would have color descriptions.) Such a gorgeous color! Bright and vibrant, but I can still wear it during the day without feeling over the top. It a real showstopper of a color and somehow, I didn’t have anything like it before.

And only ten bucks! What a steal for such a fab lipstick. 5 glowing stars from me.

I am not a lipstick girl at all – too drying and cakey on my lips. Plus, with most lipsticks I look overdone and like a kid in mom’s makeup. However, the Mattése Elite has allowed the world of fuller lip coverage into my life! As Stef mentioned this lipstick is super creamy and sort of glossy with super smooth coverage. Love it! Ths simple, black packaging is nice and I appreciate this squareed lipstick can’t roll away from me.

I tested out “First Timer” (funny huh?) which is a lovely brownish, pinkish nude shade. The color gives me so much more polish then a gloss. I can’t believe these babies are only $10. I assumed these would go for $20/25. Great formula, cute chic black packaging and a fab price. Five stars!

Unlike Tyna, I’m a lipstick hoor. I much prefer lipsticks to glosses,so when I saw this sleek black package in my mail, I was beyond excited as this was my first experience with Mattese Elite.

So when I opened up the tube of “Ecstasy” I thought to myself, “Oh, what a bright, cheery coral. This should be fun!” Um…WOW. Just WOW. When I put it on my lips, I totally did NOT anticipate that this was going to be a neon/day-glow/florescent shade of hot pink! I would almost venture to say this is shockingly bright, but in a very good, uber-stylish way. This baby is pigmented (understatement of the century) and you can get total opaqueness with ONE swipe. ONE. Amazing. I can see this being the perfect shade for deeper, richer skintones, but if you are fair like me, it would be a fantastic “statement” shade, paired with subtle eyes and the perfect dress. Ecstasy has an obvious 80s vibe to it, yet worn with the right outfit, I think it can give off a 60s Mad Men vibe as well.

And for the price? Awesome. You won’t find a more pigmented lippie out there for 10 bucks, that’s for darn sure. Also, these lipsticks smell divine (almost like vanilla cocoa to me). Five (bright) stars. :)

Oh, Recessionista-I’ve got such product envy right now. I am a coral freak! I saw Ecstasy when it came in and fought the urge to take it because “did I really NEED another coral lip product?” D’oh! I did, I really did! Don’t get me wrong, I do love Provocative. But I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep unless I order Ecstasy…

ME’s nail polishes are well worth checking out. they are usually the cheapest way to check out wild new trends in addition to a range of neons and metallics. if you’re just looking for something for your weekly manicure this is not the line to bother with, but for saturday night definitely.

I LOVE my Matesse Lipstick. I don’t have it on me at the moment but i received the most perfect nude color. its really light so it gives me that look where your lipstick is kind of the same color as your skin, but a little lighter. That is my perfect color. I searched for months for it and finally found it at MAC, but since is was a matte color it totally dried my lips out and with this color your lips can’t be dry at all. Anyway, i lost it and was still totally bummed just because of the color. Well, then i received the Matesse lipstick, tried it on right away and instantly i was in love! How did WHT this know this is the only color lipstick i wear on a regular basis. What makes this one even better then the mac is that it doesn’t dry my lips out at all like Stef mentioned and it stays!!!
I thought i had never heard of this company, but once i read that its at Ricky’s NYC i totally remember it. The packaging has changed totally, and it seems like the company is trying to reach a different market, and it worked!!!!

This lipstick is fantastic! I tried out Deep which is a brownish maroonish color. Very Dark and lovely! It’s like a dark chocolate version of red velvet cake in it’s color if that makes sense. Very dramatic and it has a nice shine. And staying power like any of the best MACs I have. Seriously I had to take it off with tissue paper! It’s awesome.

I used to live in NYC and loved Ricky’s! They are a serious one stop shop for all things beauty, and prices so well.

Stef you coined it when you said they are like wearing chapstick, not lipstick. It really moisturizes your lips which is the opposite of so many lipsticks. This is an easy 5 stars from me!
