Etsy 4 for Friday – Flower Power
One of the highlights of my weekly visit to the farmers market is that I reward myself at the end of my shopping with a visit to the flower stand. There’s no better way to brighten a room then with a fresh vase of flowers. Up until my mid twenties, however, I shied away from floral prints in home design and dress. Happily, I soon learned the power of the flower. A touch of floral print or a few simple flowers can add such a pop of brightness and color to my more neutral leaning style without feeling too tween girly or grandma-ish.
With summer upon us, Etsy is blooming with floral choices. Here a couple of my favorite picks for wielding the power of the flower:
• How do you make a classic, vintage clutch even better? With a few flowers, of course! This Upcycled Blushing Rose Clutch, circa the 1950’s/60’s, has been given new life with recycled materials including handmade roses made of vintage scarves and silk blouses. This bag is lined with a black “satiny vinyl” material and snaps shut with a gold clasp closure. $48
• I adore my Moleskin notebooks. The only problem; the basic black cover can be hard to find in my bag (and let’s face, could use some brightening). So I’m loving this large Purple and White Dahlia Adorned Moleskin notebook. Handmade, carved Dahlia flowers overlap one another on the cover adding texture and color to every writer’s favorite journal. $10
• I’m not a huge fan of the country chic look, but I’m crazy over quilts. This Quilted Pillow Case would add a huge splash of sunny color to any room. Made with vintage materials, squares of colorfully printed fabric in front with a white chenille (rescued from a vintage bedspread) back. Pillowcase measures 16 x 16 and features an envelope style closure. $20 Case Only
• Flowers go contemporary with this bright Modern Botanical Flower Art Print from artist Shalom Schultz. This signed, graphic art print depicts a lively summer garden with Gerbera daisies and butterflies in vivid pinks and greens. Print measure 8 x 10 (other sizes available) with a white border suitable for framing. $16

I think I’m still in the “20′s” stage where I avoid floral prints like the plague. My entire wardrobe consists of solid colors. Even my mother-in-law has told me I need some patterns in my house. :) I do love flowers though, that’s why I grow tons of them, tea roses (the kind you buy at floral shops), are my favorite.
@rubysbeauty – ah, the 20′s, I remember them well! My entire wardrobe was not only solid, but it was black (or denim).
Wow, I wonder what it is about getting older that makes florals and patterns more appealing?
I’m going to look like Mrs. Roper by the time I’m 60, I know it. Giant garden patterned mu-mu’s! Because I love me a floral print.
Love the clutch @tyna. Such a good idea for old scarves. Hmmm…

I love the upcycled clutch! It is so pretty and feminine.
Having just hit 26 I have nearly NO floral patterns in my wardrobe or house but I’m starting to want more flowers in my life. I think it started when Liberty of London hit Target, LOL! I wonder what it is about that 20 something flower switch…
Anyway, I LOVE the Moleskin cover! How simple yet totally adorable! And the pillow case is making me want to stop working and make a break for my sewing machine. What a fun and easy project! Great roundup!
I just turned 28 and I’m starting to want all sorts of prints! I used to have all solids in my closet too until just recently. But now I gravitate towards prints. And a lot of them are flowers. Weird.
@Stef I think I’ll be right there with you in my own flowered mu-mu! I’ll bring us the Party Palmers so we can sit on the porch and talk about the neighbors!
Great picks @Tyna. I’m really digging the clutch.
Ha – I thought it was just me that was scared of flowers in my youth! Very funny, I wonder why we avoid florals at first – only to fall hard as we get older? Love the image of @Stef all Mrs. Ropered out!
I love all my picks, of course – the clutch is awesome -what a nice way to add some new style to a classic piece – I have a umber of similar clutches in my closet that need some roses. And I am totally going for a prettily covered Moleskin when I get through my latest one.
@mandaleem – I’m so jealous – wish I had a sewing machine and the knowledge to use it.
Finally, welcome to wht @Rosie – glad you liked my picks!

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I was a floral-avoider. It wasn’t until recently that I even started looking at patterned clothing….maybe I was trying to be grown-up and sexy and florals didn’t say that to me? Dunno, but something must have flipped the switch at because I’m about to turn 31 and I love them!
I’m coveting that Moleskin, I love all things paper. I’m about to take a journaling class for Summer II, I’m going to have to get one of these for that! (Writing is always better when contained within a pretty notebook!)
I love the upcycled clutch! And now that I’m older and wiser.. HA! I admit, would not be caught dead in floral prints as a youngster..only my Nana wore floral prints! Now, my closet is filled with them! Have the tables turned or what!
This is so funny – I thought I was the only one who turned from a wardrobe consisting of only monochromatic colors to the florals! And my transformation happened just this past year – when I turned 34, nonetheless! Although, my mom of all people just recently told me that the florals “weren’t me” and I should consider going back to my classics – oh mothers! While I have to admit she’s probably right, I have to still keep some of the busy patterns in my rotation – I love them! And I totally heart that clutch – good pics @tyna! (and by the way I do already have a Mrs. Roper mumu!! I love it and the hub hates it)
Great collection Tyna! There are so many beautiful floral items on Etsy! They always brighten my day. And yes, I do wear my fair share of black. But I have found that some lovely floral accessories can make me feel less goth or gloomy. I could really go for the clutch and even the moleskin.
