we heart weekly – 8.5.11

Dancin’ on Air! Plus a reason to watch TeenNick.

Ahh, Saturday! It’s been a long week for me. I returned this week from a visit home to Pennsylvania, sat down at my computer to get back to work and suddenly lost internet service…and my home phone…and (gasp!) my cable. Turns out, my neighbors are moving and the cable company came out and disconnected our service by accident! Whoops.

After a few days and many phone calls to our cable company, it’s all fixed. And not a moment too soon – there’s some good stuff I need to share with you guys this week! Starting with our Video of the Week.

If we may backtrack a moment – upon my arrival in Philadelphia I was picked up by my Mom and sister and whisked off to lunch. No sooner had we been seated then Susan turned to me and said “Did you hear they ran a ‘Dancin’ on Air’ marathon on TV?”

Sisters. They know to lead with the really important things! If you are not familiar with this Philadelphia based 80s era dance show, the above video will give you a taste of its charms.

For more “Dancin’ on Air” fun (it’s a pop culture time capsule – see what people really dressed like in the 80s) check out FourFour‘s hilarious recap of the glorious event, including tons of amazing photos and GIFS: Dancin’ on Air recap

If you’re a child of the 90s, I’ve got something for you too. Did you know Teennick is now rerunning classic Nickelodeon shows “Kenan & Kel” and “All That” plus the cartoon “Doug” and even (yay!) “Clarissa Explains It All”! Get all the details here: The 90s Are All That

And if you’re curious about current teen crazes, how about some Hunger Games news? On the return trip home I devoured the latest EW with a cover and new images from the set featuring leads Liam Hemsworth (Gale) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta). I’m a bit mixed on my response: Peeta’s so bulky and Gale’s just…off. But I’ve got faith the movie will work out! See the pics: EW – The Hunger Games Central

Finally, have you seen the video for New Romance from the actor/musician Miles Fisher? With the help of his Final Destination 5 cast mates, this clip pays homage to cheese fest Saved By The Bell in the best way possible ~ killing off all the characters in gory, yet campy style! And now it’s time to relax! How was your week readers? Share your highs and lows in the comments!

Sweet, I’m totally a child of the 90’s! Clarissa from “Clarissa Explains It All” was definitely the first hipster and a major fashion inspiration to me as a kid. The only thing that could make this site better would be episodes of “Salute Your Shorts.”

Old school Nickelodeon is like my favorite thing ever and I’m so happy they are doing this.

Just checked out Gale & Peeta….Peeta seems to be right on for me. But Gale’s character comes off a bit softer in the book. I guess we’ll see them in action! I can’t wait.

Glad you all liked some old school tv ladies! I’m waiting for TeenNick to start showing You Can’t DO That on Television – loved that show!

Oh and did anybody recognize the future celeb in the DOA video? Look out for a very young Kelly Ripa at the end!
