CleanWell hand sanitizer review

Keeping little (and big) hands clean the natural way

Anyone who has kids, or is around them on a daily basis, knows how messy little people they can be. It’s almost like they have this magnetic attraction to anything that carries germs. And did I mention that kids love to put things in their mouths, especially their hands? That is why as a mom I try to do my best job of keeping my kids as germ free as possible.

There are some scary viruses out there and it’s my job to keep my kids safe from them. I even send hand sanitizer with my son to school. Yes they have a sink and should be washing their hands with warm soapy water, but you can’t always rely on that. As a former teacher I know that not one single school I’ve ever been in has hot water. This year my son told me he wasn’t required to wash his hands before snacks. I pleaded with him to go to the sink even though it wasn’t required, but I also sent him off with some sanitizer he could stash in his desk. I figure he’s more likely to use the sanitizer than be the only one washing his hands.

Luckily the good people from CleanWell feel as strongly about germs as I do. CleanWell was founded by a doctor who made it his mission to prevent illness before it happens. They have created products that not only kill germs, but are also safe and effective in doing so.

CleanWell products are a safe green alternative to the harsh sanitizers found on the market today. They use a natural thyme oil in place of harmful chemicals that can not only be dangerous to us, but also the environment.

Oh, and remember that thing I mentioned about hands and mouths? All CleanWell sanitizers are kid safe and pose no ingestion risk. Additionally, all the formulas are triclosan, benzalkonium chloride, and alcohol free.

I tested two of CleanWell’s products, including the hand sanitizer wipes in orange vanilla (2 canister pack $8.99). I love the convenience of the wipes and keep those in my car console. We use those before eating anything on the road and also as soon as we get back in the car after shopping.

I also the hand sanitizer spray in the original citrus herb scent (Six 1oz sprays $16.99). This little spray bottle went directly into my purse. The small size (and multiple bottles in a pack) means this spray was made for on the go sanitizing. I use it to spray down the shopping cart handle and take it with me wherever I go.

I will say the natural thyme scent in these formulas does take some adjustment time. It’s a fairly strong smell that seems to linger on your hands. I had a hard time smelling the orange vanilla in these and really just smelled the thyme. If strong smells, or thyme, are not your thing, these might not agree with you.

But to each their own; my son isn’t in love with the smell of these, but my daughter doesn’t seem to mind them. As a mom of two keeping them healthy is my number one job. Thanks to CleanWell my job just got a little easier.

Pros:
Safe, gentle, actually ingestible formulas (not that we recommend eating it!)
Easy to use and very portable.
All CleanWell products are certified cruelty-free.

Cons:
Must like thyme; it’s the main, lingering scent.

I was not sent CleanWell as a sample, but I am definitely a fan! I picked up a bottle at Whole Foods a while back and fell in love. I try not to use hand sanitizers unless absolutely neccessary, but I MUCH prefer this to any typical anti-bac gel, even the super nummy-smelling ones from Bath and Body Works. I find CleanWell less drying and cleaner feeling. I don’t mind the scent at all, and honestly I find it a good trade-off if I did. I never had a problem with leaking (unlike some hand santizers) and the spray is really convenient. I love it!

I received CleanWell All-Natural Hand Sanitizer to test. Like many people, I’ve become a hand sanitizer user and have it in every room of the house, my pocketbook and office! I was intrigued by the fantastic claims of CleanWell’s product. Especially that it was Alcohol-free and gentle on sensitive skin. I love the scent of thyme too. I know that alcohol is effective when killing germs but it can be harsh on my skin. So, I liked that this was actually a naturally germ killing product and even had a very fresh clean scent. I thought it made my hands feel soft and I liked that a lot!
I was glad to find this at Mother’s Market when it ran out! I’ve replaced my purell and BBW’s! My hubby even likes it! Thanks for making such a cool product that is germ free! I give this 5 stars!

I so agree Marilyn. If only they could make them smell like something kid friendly my kids would be all over these. Unfortunately, thyme isn’t a scent kids love. I think these wipes are perfect for adults especially since they don’t contain alcohol which can be so drying.

I tested the spray too, and am very impressed with it’s gentleness. I am not usually a hand sanitizer fan, due to the alcohol drying my skin out and the fact that it’s just plain better for you to wash the germs away. But of course you can’t always wash, so this is a fantastic natural alternative. It doesnt dry my skin out at all – it actually makes it a little softer I also keep mine in my car for myself and my two year-old. She is very excited by the spray! She doesn’t seem to mind the scent and my husband actually likes it. I’m not a big fan of the scent personally, but since they are and it’s a safe and apparently effective product, I will probably buy it again! Great review, Tiffany! It’s a little pricey and I wish they could bring out the orange-vanilla scent more, so four stars here.

I received the wipes to sample and I personally love them. I really like the scent, it doesn’t have that artificial fragrance or alcohol scent that others have. I like to go geocaching and a pack of these in my satchel is perfect for cleaning up.

I’m not a big germaphobe, but I do hate having dirty hands and these are great. I would also be interested in the sprays, especially since you get more than one for the price. 5 stars from me!

I’ve never heard of CleanWell, so this was a bit of an eyeopening review for me! I’m not a germaphobe, but I do get paranoid about the little ones in my life because I know their immune systems aren’t quite as robust as an adults. That said, I don’t really like or trust the typical antibacterials because I think it’s a big part of what’s lead us down this road of superbugs and antibiotic resistant crud. I like the idea of a natural antibacterial because I think it’s probably safer for everyone involved and a better long term solution. Thanks for the intro and review @tiffany !
