Mourir Aupres de Toi – Spike Jonze
Spike Jonze: Mourir Auprès de Toi on Nowness.com.
It’s Halloween and to celebrate I just had to share this incredible piece of work from Spike Jonze Mourir Aupres de Toi (To Die By Your Side). Jonze was a fan of designer Olympia Le Tan‘s work recreating iconic first edition book covers in felt. He joined up with the designer and French filmmaker Simon Cahn to create this stunning stop motion animation short.
The setting is an old, Parisian bookshop (it was filmed at the famed Shakespearre and Company) where at night the covers come to life. It’s the story of a felt skeleton (from Shakespeare’s Macbeth) who falls in love with a beautiful and sassy vixen (Dracula’s girlfriend Mina). Sweet, sad, spooky and a little bit dirty. Perfect.
Happy Halloween!

That was awesome! I was interested in seeing how the dirty/sad/spooky/sweet/Macbeth skeleton/Dracula girlfriend combo would turn out, and I’m just blown away by all of it. So creative!
