Crabtree and Evelyn may be best known for their English floral scents, but let me share a little secret with you – they’re my go-to spot for deep, earthy fragrances. Rose, Lily, Iris; they do them beautifully. But Sandalwood, Myrrh, Amber; these are the unexpected dark horses that they do fabulously

So it’s with great pleasure that I introduce the Smoky Amber Holiday collection. Perhaps the most perfect example of why Crabtree and Evelyn has me coming back again and again.

Smoky Amber is an “exotic blend of crystallized ginger, golden amber and cardamom, accented with mandarin and sandalwood”. Go on, read it again, I’ll wait. And yes, it smells as amazing as it sounds. Spicy, a tiny bit of sweetness, all enveloped in a richness that is more Moroccan lair than Kensington garden.

The Smoky Amber large poured candle ($30) comes in a rich purple box, accented with orange, teal and gold plant illustrations and an embossed vine pattern on the sides. And what’s that you see peeking out of the box?

A sheer protective layer over the candle, with a portion of their description printed in script. Gasp-inducing, I tell you.

The vessel itself is frosted deep purple, with a shiny tone on tone version of the illustration from the box. The candle is divine, infused with a high concentration of perfume oil, it absolutely fills the room with it’s scent. And promises a hefty 50 hours of burn time. Though I won’t reach that anytime soon, I’m hoarding this like the limited edition junkie that I am!

This company is a holiday workhorse! I can’t be the only one who has either gotten or given something Crabtree & Evelyn for Christmas year after year after year.
I’ve always been partial to their lavender or rose scents (their packaging usually demands that English Floral scent you mention, @Stef) for hand creams and washes. Smoky Amber sounds nice, though.

For YEARS I thought of Crabtree and Evelyn as an meme (french for grandmother, not meme as in the internet, hah!) sort of company. Man, what I was missing! That candle is beautiful- C&E always has great packaging and this is no different. This is totally going to be a Christmas present for my son’s teachers!
