Someone gave me a glimpse at a gem this week. That someone; National Public Radio. The gem; Dear Photograph. Have you seen it? It’s a site that invites people to take an old photograph and rephotograph the scene as it appears today, including the photo as part of the image. As NPR said, it’s “images from the past, set in the present”.
Each submission includes a note from the reader that begins “Dear Photograph…” which are an open love letter to their history. They’re nostalgic, often causing an ache in the heart that everyone can relate to. Children grown, simpler times lost, loved ones passed. It’s a brilliant concept and a beautiful site. Like it? They just released a book of some of the most powerful ones.
On to this week’s league…
