July Cocktail of the Month: Black & Blue Ginger
Celebrate the 4th all summer long with this stand out cocktail

With summer upon us, we are being inundated with the usual summer cocktails. Big pitchers of sangria, lemonade with vodka, mojitos, sweet tea with lemon…they’re all great, but they are everywhere.
When summer rolls around, what happens to whiskey and bourbon? How come my favorite booze is left out of all the summer fun? A dark alcohol can be light and fruity too – just give it a chance!
This 4th of July, serve your guests this unique cocktail – let’s call it the Red, White, Black & Blue for the day – to stand out out amongst the typical summery drinks.
Ingredients:
(Makes 2 Cocktails)
• 3 Ounces of Whiskey or Bourbon (I used Maker’s Mark)
• 10 to 12 Fresh Blueberries
• 8 to 10 Fresh Blackberries
• A Handful of Ice Cubes for Each Glass
• 12 Ounces Ginger Beer
• Mint and/or Lime Wedge for Garnish
Directions:
1. Add the whiskey, blueberries, and blackberries to a blender. Puree for a minute or two. I like the look and crunch of all the seeds in the cocktail but, if you don’t like all the seeds in your cocktails, by all means, strain the alcohol before pouring it into the glasses.
2. Place a handful of ice into each glass.
3. Pour half of the whiskey fruit blend into each glass, then pour about 6 ounces of the ginger beer into each glass. Garnish with a mint leaf or a lime wedge and then serve.
4. Sip (or chug) the goodness.
See, I told you whiskey could be just as summery as a pitcher of sangria!

This looks amazing! Might have to try this for the long weekend that’s coming up :)
I will be joining you in drinking these this hot weekend ahead.
Yes, you’re right. A very creative way to use an ingredient that isn’t usually found poolside in cocktails.
This drink looks fantastic. Cannot wait to try it!
I don’t even know if I’m going to make it to the weekend to try this, let alone the 4th!
Thanks for sharing @sarcasticcooking

As a newish Whiskey fan, I can not wait to test this cocktail out! I love, love, love Ginger beer so I have a feeling this will so become one of my favorite summertime drinks. I’m thinking I just need to add a little Ginger Sugar along the rim to add some flair to my 4th of July festivities.

Mmmmm! Ginger sugar?!?! I love that idea!
I am a huuuge fan of whiskey, particularly rye. And also a huge fan of ginger beer! So I usually am sipping a Moscow Mule during the summer months (ginger beer, lime, vodka [preferably ginger vodka]) or an Algonquin (whiskey, maraschino, pineapple juice). My fiance loves whiskey and is our bartender ;) And of course, a margarita is always a good choice during warm weather.

I love Moscow Mules too! This is kind of the whiskey take on that.
Wow! that looks way too tempting, especially now that its summer. I cant wait to make this. Thanks for sharing! Love it!

Is there a way you guys can include non-alcoholic cocktails alongside alcoholic cocktails?
I get that everyone here normally drinks alcohol, but I can’t drink alcohol or beer! I’m allergic to hops (the main ingredient in beer!) and alcohol! I’d like to be able to have something that LOOKS like an alcoholic cocktail, without there being alcohol (or beer.)
I just made this drink over the weekend and I really liked it and so did my friend! I didn’t have any fresh berries so I just used a frozen mix I had and it worked perfect. So tasty and refreshing.
