Denise Richards Volume Extend Shampoo and Conditioner By Cristophe – Review

Bringing Hollywood Worthy Locks to the Masses

photos: we heart this

When I think of celebrities with the best hair, Denise Richards is one of the first that comes to mind. Those long, beautiful, luxurious locks that look so thick and healthy, they make every girl swoon. Even when I watched her reality show, I swear her hair looked amazing in EVERY SINGLE SCENE, it was ridiculous. If I could get my hair to look half as beautiful as hers I would be a happy girl.

So it was only natural for her to team up with famed stylist Cristophe, who opened his first salon, Cristophe Beverly Hills, over 25 years ago, and create a volume extend hair care line. This five product line consists of the Denise Richard’s Volume Extend Shampoo and matching Volume Extend Conditioner, a Volumizing Spray, a Hair Creme and a Finishing Spray.

I tested the shampoo and conditioner, which both come in a sleek white bottle with a convenient push dispenser top. I really liked the unique packaging; they were really easy to use in the shower and much cleaner than a squeeze bottle or pour spout. They’re a decent size, at 6.75 ounces and both have a strong, fresh, clean scent.

The Volume Extend Shampoo ($16.99) contains “voluminis” a new technology, that’s supposed to create visibly fuller hair, and oxygenating sea fennel to promote healthy hair. In addition, it has probiotics, (which I know are in my yogurt and supposed to be very good for you!), they help give nourishment to your follicles.

The Volume Extend Conditioner ($15.99) has UV protectors in it, Vitamin C, and Creatine, to improve strength and elasticity. Don’t body builders put creatine in their protein shakes, so maybe it works good for hair strength too?

I’ve only been testing out this line for a couple weeks now, so it’s hard to tell a big difference at this point, but I will say I recently went to a wedding and did a big blowout, curled style, and I did feel like my hair looked thicker and had more body. My hair is pretty thin and sometimes hard to style because of that, and it seemed like the styling “stuck” better and held longer after using this line.

It also got my hair really clean, you don’t feel any kind of residue with these products. Now, I don’t know if it’s something I will use EVERY shampoo, only because I feel like I need more deep conditioning for my hair, since I use a straight iron regularly, but I am noticing a slight difference with styling so it’s a good option to have when you want some extra ooumpf!

Pros:
Nice packaging, with convenient dispensing
Does add some body and fullness to styling
Paraben and sulfate free
Not tested on animals

Cons:
Price Point is a little high, considering the size.

I tested the Shampoo and Conditioner. I really wanted to like this because I am a user of volumizing/thickening hair products. I liked what it did for my hair but I don’t really like the scent which can sadly make or break a product’s experience for me. To me, it smelled way too masculine, almost cologne-y – which puzzled me because Denise Richards put her name on it haha. I’m sure some females do enjoy a musky masculine scent, but for me – not so much. I thought the product performed pretty well but I ended up giving this product to my boyfriend who loves it! 3 stars from me.

If I don’t like how a product smells, even a little bit, I’m pretty much guaranteed not to buy it again.

Denise Richards does have gorgeous hair…. did anyone else watch her reality TV show when it was on?

I have been using the shampoo and conditioner for a few weeks now, and I have to say, if you want more volume they do perform. The scent is definitely more masculine, but weirdly, I kind of liked it! I think it was just a nice change from all the frilly and fruity scents I’m used to. I would give this product 3.5 – 4 stars, because it’s priced a little high for 6.75 oz, but it does work.

I tested Denise Richard’s Volume Extend Shampoo and matching Volume Extend Conditioner. The shampoo smelled good to me.. I had no problem with its scent. I thought it smelled like musk which I do like a lot. It lathered up really well and cleaned my hair with only one shampoo pass.. The conditioner also worked well and I did not need much to get it through all my hair.
However, I was only able to use it a few times because I have been getting Keratin hair treatments, so I have to use special shampoos and conditioners. I gave this product to a friend that has thin hair.. she flipped over it and will be getting more, so she says! That’s a good thing to hear. I also liked the cute packaging. Very sleek white bottle with a even more convenient push dispenser top, that I also really liked.. I’m giving this product a 4 star rating.. Only because of the price and wished like heck that it was made without sodium laureth sulfate and parabens.

      Hi Irene,

I noticed your comment wished the Denise Richards Volume Extend product line was sulfate and paraben free…and it is! With Denise coloring her hair it was important the products be free of sodium laureth sulfate so it would not strip and dry out her hair, along with being a health conscious line removing all parabens. Feel free to check out more information on the line on the Cristophe.com website. http://cristophe.com/news/news.html

Thank you for reviewing the line and we are thrilled your friend loved it!!

Hi Rebekka! Thanks for stopping by we heart this and for letting us know that these products are sulfate and paraben free. That’s important to know, so I added it into this story under the ‘Pros”.

And stay tuned readers – we’ll have a look at another Christophe line (and I believe his most popular one) the Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner soon!

I also tried these products. I have very long hair and while I felt my hair was cleansed, I didn’t feel it felt as soft and silky as it usually does. I also felt that the conditioner didn’t work well enough to detangle my hair, which usually combs out very well but didn’t with this conditioner. I found the volumizing product to be very sticky, the smell masculine and in general, really wasn’t a fan of this product. I too, really wanted to love these products because I really like Drnise Richards, felt she would never endorse any products unless they were fabulous, and she has always had gorgeous hair. So in my mind, these products would have to be fabulous for her to put her seal of approval on them. I was really disappointed when the products didn’t perform for me and ended up giving them away to a male friend of mine, who usually uses regular soap on his hair. So for him, the products worked just fine.

Ooh, I’ve used (and use!) other Cristophe products with great results, so I think I should keep an eye out for this one! I’ve been hearing TONS of horror stories about thinning hair after having a baby, so I’m planning my attack for my (potential) hair loss. I bet the Volume Extend products would help!
