The Lipstick League – week of 10.1.12

Cynthia Rowley Spring 2013 Video from cynthia rowley on Vimeo.

I’ve always been a Cynthia Rowley fan, but it’s gone to a whole new level now. Check out her Spring 2013 show from a couple of weeks ago; a two-hour long combination installation and photo shoot. Set in an abandoned hotel, Rowley invited photographers to shoot the installation, complete with raining confetti and projected imagery on the peeling walls. As if that’s not fab enough I’ve got two words for you: flask bangles. She designed flask bangles!

Question of the Week: – Who inspired you to get into makeup?

Answer: My Mom. She never wore a lot of makeup herself, but she had a cheap and giant eye shadow palette that she used to keep hidden in her closet. And every morning after she went to work, I’d pull it out and apply Adan Ant stripes to my face. Thanks Mom!

Here’s what’s going on around the league…

Phyrra – Phyrra is entranced by the celestial wonders of an Autumn Sky with the Meow Harvest Moon Collection.

Vampy Varnish – Wants you to check out the new Seche Nail Color Collection!

we heart this – gives Eye Rock Eyeliner Tapes a spin (while shouting at the devil, of course).

Beauty Junkies Unite – Here’s your peek at essie’s new fall nail polish collection, Stylenomics! Which shade is your favorite?

Clumps of Mascara – is head over heels in love with Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Liquid foundation. It really is the best liquid foundation that she’s ever tried. And that says a lot!

EauMG – Victoria has found a new patchouli perfume love, here’s her video review of Spanish luxury perfume line, Ramon Monegal Mon Patchouly.

Lipglossiping – shares her Autumn lust list, well, a girl’s gotta keep warm somehow!

Gouldylox Reviews – Ever wished someone could photoshop you in real life? This won’t make you skinnier, but will even out your skin and help hide aging!

Nouveau Cheap – shows you a $3 face product that didn’t work for its intended purpose, but turned out to be a game-changer in a completely unexpected way.

Pink Sith – has finally found her holy grail mattifyer for her oil slick skin AND it’s not a constipation medicine!

Prime Beauty – loves the wide awake look IT Cosmetics Hello Bright Eyes Pencil Duo gives her so much, she breaks into song!

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Phyrra – I love this beautiful Adele inspired look by Cora of Vintage or Tacky.

That was fun to watch. I know those shoots take a long time to put together.
My Mom also was the one to inspire me to wear makeup, along with her Mom! Never too much either.. just enough to make you look alive and halfway decent! Thanks MOMMY! I know my little sister loved when I’d do her makeup.. soon after that she became a model and then even became a makeup artist..

That was a really fun video, and it seems like it would have been so fun to be at that shoot! LOVE the confetti :)

I had loved makeup since I was a little kid, because I watched my mom, aunts and grandmas putting it on, and they’d let me have a few things from the gift with purchases they’d get. But I didn’t really start wearing makeup and exploring beauty products until COLLEGE! My best friend totally got me hooked. :)

I don’t know if any one person inspired me to get into makeup, but one day in the year 2000 (just checked), I decided to make a Makeupalley account. And the rest is history! Then somehow between then and now I became a nail polish fiend. Goodness:)

I love Cynthia Rowley too!! My first designer piece was a Cynthia Rowley bag that I still have. I also have all of her Swell books and a coffee table of hers. So yes, I am a huge fan!!

I got into makeup when I started to become active in the theater. I had to learn a lot about makeup pretty quickly and instantly hooked. My dad bought me my first real cosmetic pieces when I was probably about 12.

I’ve always been into makeup. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved makeup. I think I started with that peel-off nail polish and Tinkerbell powder (Does anybody else remember that brand?) My mom only had one eye shadow, one blush, and one lipstick and I remember being 4 and thinking, “Why would you settle for only one shade of something? You don’t color with one crayon out of the box, do you?” My mom used to joke that I was not her child because of it, because she really didn’t care.
I will say that my tastes did refine once I was in college. One of my college friends was effortlessly chic and put together and she introduced me to Dior and Chanel. I haven’t looked back since :P
