Too Faced Shadow Bon Bons – Review, Photos & Swatches

A beautifully delicious, bakery inspired palette

photos: we heart this

My guess is that at this point in our Too Faced week you’re having a pretty hard time deciding which of their holiday palettes is your must-have. My advance apologies, because I’m about to make it significantly tougher by introducing Shadow Bon Bons ($42).

When I attended the Too Faced holiday blogger event a month ago, and all the holiday goodness was laid out before us strewed between diamonds and sweets (an event that my husband rightfully called a “girl’s pleasuredome”) the choice for my must-have palette was clear.

Listening to co founder Jerrod Blandino talk about the inspiration for the holiday 2012 collections, he told us that on a Christmas trip to Paris with his husband he had the realization that life is never more beautiful than when you’re in love. So, as I’m sure it did for him, my head started dancing with visions of love, makeup and all things french and sweet: macaroons, brûlées, café au lait. And my eyes went straight to the Shadow Bon Bons. With its chocolate, lavender and spun sugar color scheme, it was amour at first site.

I’m going to predict it may be the same for you. With a full size LashGasam mascara (more on that later), a deluxe sample sized Shadow Insurance primer in Candlelight (which creates as soft and beautiful of a glow as the highlighter of the same name) and 12 eye shadows in a flocked box – there’s a lot to love. The cherries on top? A nicely sized mirror and instructions for three delicious looks; dubbed Sugared Violet, Pink Cupcake and Toasty Caramel.

Let’s take a look at those shadows, shall we Chérie?

Row one is the Sugared Violet look, Row two; Pink Cupcake and Row three; Toasty Caramel. Delicious, no?

Vanilla, Cut the Cake, Peach Fuzz, Hot Cocoa, Nude Beach, Cinnamon Sugar and Candlelight Shadow Insurance

Vanilla – matte warm ivory
Cut the Cake – lightly shimmered lavender with micro glitter
Peach Fuzz – matte peach nude loaded with gold micro glitter
Hot Cocoa – medium brown shimmer
Nude Beach – matte gold nude with chunky champagne glitter
Cinnamon Sugar – shimmery golden bronze (confession: my favorite shade of the lot! The pigment is divine.)

Framboise, Coffee Bean, Candy Rose,Lovey Dovey, Marzipan, Licorice Latte

Framboise – shimmery deep grape
Coffee Bean – matte dark chocolate
Candy Rose – matte, light yellow pink with silver glitter
Lovey Dovey – shimmery, medium bronze brown
Marzipan – matte light brown (a fabulous crease shadow that adds subtle depth)
Licorice Latte – matte black with bronze micro glitter

As for the LashGASM, I LOVE this Mascara! It has everything I want; small plastic bristles that get the dark, clump-free formula on to every single lash for separated volume and exaggerated length. It’s a contender for my new favorite mascara.

Testing the Sugared Violet look, going not to Paris, but to work.

Whatever Shadow Bon Bons remind you of, from lavender macaroons to caramel truffles, the looks you create with this palette will be equally sweet, yet blissfully calorie free!

Readers, are you hungry for Too Faced’s Shadow Bon Bons?

DANGIT, Y’ALL! I had just decided yesterday that I wanted the Love Sweet Love Set! After cooing over the reviews this week, I’d made my decision, I was done with it, I even pinned the darn palette on my “Buy me this!” board that I keep around for my terrible-at-holidays husband!

Now…now I just don’t know anymore. This palette has a variation on every single one of my favorite shadow colors – browns, gold, taupe/ivory, pink, purple… Plus it’s time for my quarterly makeup purge and some of those colors are going to be thrown away… And a full size mascara?

UGH. All I’m sayin’, tomorrow there better not be another cool Too Faced holiday palette. This better be it… :-)

This palette is just TOO CUTE. That Cinnamon Sugar shade is just GORGEOUS. And they’re full sized eyeshadows!!! (same size as Too Faced’s regular eye shadow singles, which are a bit bigger than your standard MAC eye shadow pan). I’m super tempted to buy this palette… I just can’t get enough Too Faced makeup this season!

AND you can get it on sale during Too Faced’s Friends and Family Sale!!! (Some of the other palettes/sets are Sephora exclusives [Sweet Indulgence palette], so you can’t buy them on the Too Faced website with the discount). The Love Sweet Love set is also included in the sale.

@Stef, LashGASM indeed! DANG GIRL, your lashes are looking super sexy ;)

@stef, oops you’re right!!! I got overly excited and was thinking of the wrong palette. The Sweet Indulgence palette pans are each 0.06 oz.

$33.60 is such a steal…I have and love the Sweet Indulgence palette, which just makes me want this one MORE!!! (I’m justifying it because it’s limited edition and I know that the one I have is awesome, so it’s totally a good idea to buy another one…)

This seems like a good investment piece due to the fact that every shade is wearable—I am OH SO TIRED of useless holiday palette eye shadows. You know which ones I’m talking about—while the other shades around them hit pan, those unwearable shades smirk in their pristine glory. Bastards.

I hear you @krista – soo many of my palettes suffer this fate. One or two pans down to the dregs and the others barely touched. I end up saving the palette “just in case” and six months later find it dusty and neglected at the bottom of my beauty stash. Very annoying.

This week has me jonesing to try the LAShgasm mascara – the brush looks great and everyone keeps raving about it. And while I’ve tested (and have been regularly using) the Shadow Insurance primer – I haven’t tried it in the much beloved Candlelight hue. This palette is worth the price just to get my hands on those two products.

But add in the most perfect shadow selection ever? Score. I love each and every shade – and could actually see myself wearing ALL of them. Especially Vanilla, Hot Cocoa, Coffee Bean and Candy Rose. Too Faced has really impressed with their holiday collections this year.

Is it sad that I see Smarties candy colors in this palette? I LOVE SMARTIES.

God, I want Smarties now….and this palette. Do the Smarties come included with the palette? I really don’t like macarons (which are those candies that you are thinking of, the ones that look like sandwiches. Macaroons look like frosting kind of. Yes, that one extra vowel completely changes which sweet your talking about. Welcome to French!)
