The Lipstick League – week of 12.31.12

We went to a Nuance event a few weeks ago at the Chateau Marmont. Have you tried it yet? It’s Salma Hayek’s exclusive CVS line, and it’s really impressive. It’s loaded with natural and exotic ingredients that aim to replicate many of the homemade concoctions Salma’s Grandmother, an aesthetician in Mexico, made and used on herself and her clients.

We’ve got more coming up about the line in the next few weeks, we’re even hosting a party to share the love. But until then, check out footage of the event…you may just recognize someone!

Question of the Week – What’s your least expensive yet most effective beauty tip/product?

Answer – Don’t go to sleep with your makeup on, EVER. Keep a pack of moistened towels on your bedside to table to assure it.

Here’s what the league was up to this week…

Lipglossiping – hides all the Christmas chocolates and resolves to jump back on the weight-watching wagon, anyone else being the ultimate New Year cliche?

Gouldylox Reviews – Ever want your own before and after experience? Join the beauty bootcamp and make it happen in 2013.

Nouveau Cheap – For my birthday, I told myself that I was going to treat myself to some fun bath products and not even think about testing or reviewing them. But man, these body washes are so delightful that I just couldn’t stop myself from reviewing them afterall.

Pink Sith – is giving away an Argan Oil Infused Hair Care Set from DermOrganics. Enter today!

Prime Beauty – is having fun creating a plethora of nail looks with Le Metier de Beaute’s Holiday Nail Lacquers. The Deck the Nails duo are shimmering overlays and Bright as Night are deep jewel tones including the new Pantone color for 2013-Emerald! See what combinations she created!

Phyrra – shares her first impressions of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Beauty Balm.

Guest Post of the Week, as chosen by Vampy Varnish – I chose Chalkboard Nails and her amazing black spotted and neon abstract nails as my guest post this week because I think she’s amazingly talented, and this is a super cool look!

    woohoo! That’s awesome, @Stef :)

I agree–removing makeup before bed is one of the most important things you can do! My favorite cheap but AMAZING products is essence Get BIG Lashes mascara. It’s about $3.50 but it does an amazing job of making my lashes look long and lush. It’s probably my HG mascara.

    So neat @Stef!

I learned if you’re in a pinch, dab a teeny bit of your lipstick on your cheeks and blend, blend, blend with your fingers. Voila! Insta-blush!

It’s January 5th, which means it’s Zena’s (my canine, and possibly better, half) birthday! I can’t believe she’s nine years old. NINE!!! AHHHHHHHH! Can I put her as old as her adoption years? That would make it so much easier for me to handle. Nine is so old. I don’t want her to be nine!

Happy Birthday to Zena! If your dog is healthy, 9 is still young. My hubby had a German Shepherd growing up that lived to be almost 18. Don’t worry about the time you might not have and enjoy the time you do have :)

    Very cool, @stef !
My favorite/cheap beauty tip is whenever you are applying sunscreen or moisturizer to your face, make sure you smooth it down your neck and onto your chest. You can take care of your face, but if you forget your neck, you’re going to look pretty freaky once you get older. Also, I use my retinol eye cream around my lip line, too. Once I hit 30, my lip line started to blur a bit and I started to need a lip liner. Once I started using the eye cream, about 2 weeks later, my line was more solid and my lipstick stopped bleeding.

Just saw this.. very cool @stef!
Will check out some of her line soon. I have to go to CVS for medicine so I seek it out..
My least expensive yet most effective beauty tip is to keep your face out of the sun at all costs! Wear a hat and protect your face.. of course wear some sunscreen.

I see that line all the time at CVS! I should take a better look next time :)

For me, the most inexpensive start to a good beauty regimen is water and sleep. My skin just doesn’t look or feel as good if I don’t drink enough water (something I should work on more anyway) and getting at least 7 hours of sleep!

I am a big fan of double cleansing. The goal of round one washing your face with the primary focus of getting off all of your makeup. The goal of round two is to clean your face now that the makeup is off. The result is my skin is clearer, happier and break out free.

I do the same thing! I use a gentle cleanser to wash away makeup leftover from my makeup wipes, then I use my Clarisonic with a different cleanser (usually one w/ an active ingredient–I figure it is delivered better if there’s no grime to scrub through).

I am a big fan of the Nuance products–the foaming face wash is excellent. Oh, and the rose petal balm! One of my best tricks is cleansing my face w/the oil cleansing method. I know it sounds scary and counter-intuitive, but it’s made a nice improvement in my skin w/out breaking out. Just take two to three oils, (I use castor and jojoba) massage gently over your face for several minutes, soak a clean washcloth in warm water and buff away the oils.

Sounds great, and love that cameo @stef!
My least expensive beauty tip? Kale. No I don’t mash it, grind it or paste it on my face. I do, however, go through periods of intense juicing, with Kale being a main ingredient. Whenever I do this, it’s magic for my skin. You’d think I’d do it all the time but I don’t–it’s kind of a pain. Juicing is easy, clean-up isn’t too bad, but lugging all the produce it takes for a week’s worth of juicing, ugh. BTW, my juice combo of choice is kale, cucumber, parsley and lemon.

I have been dying to try the Nuance line. I can’t wait to her what WHT thinks of it. My favorite inexpensive beauty product is my Lypsyl lip balm. Yes, it is expensive for lip balm but overall it is one of my least expensive beauty products. I truly moisturizes my lips and improves the overall texture. It provides an excellent base for lip color. Love it!!
