Life beyond Lipgloss – 3.31.13

This week we took at look at MUFE’s Pro Finish Powder, learned some nail art techniques and coveted Stef’s gift bag from The Makeup Show Los Angeles.

But a woman can’t live on cosmetics alone, here are a few links that caught our attention this week:

If you’re active on Twitter, Facebook or pretty much anywhere on the internet, you’ve heard about the Veronica Mars Movie Kickstarter Project. Unable to get a movie off the ground for the much beloved television show by going the usual route; creator Rob Thomas turned to the fans to raise the funds – and shocked the movie industry by collecting their $2 million goal in just hours (they currently stand at over 4 million). Obsessed television fans may have just changed the way movies are green-lighted in Hollywood.

Not familiar with teen detective Veronica and her friends in Neptune? No worries, you can catch the first two season for FREE over at the WB – Veronica Mars on the WB.

And if you’re wondering why you should watch a teen show that was canceled years ago, this list from Jezebel may change your mind (warning: lots of spoilers!) – 10 Things I Learned from Veronica Mars

Fans of another much-loved female-centric series, The Gilmore Girls now have their own movie on their mind. Until we see that Kickstarter in action, occupy yourself with the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge – a list of every book mentioned by the whip-smart character during the series run. How many have you read?

Not a Gilmore Girls fan? We’ve got our own list of must reads from one of our favorite (and much missed) shows – Lost. Delve into a few new books (or revisit a favorite) by checking out this classic wht post – Lost Required Reading.

Readers – what pop culture events had you all aflutter this week?

Tyna, co-founder and co-editor of wht, worries about becoming a crazy cat lady, reads at least a book a week, checks in at a Flyers fan forum every morning and is forever (some say obsessively) organizing her closets and drawers.

I’m jealous of you @mandabear for getting the chance to see Veronica Mars season 1 as a newbie. I’ve been known to claim the the first season may be the best season of any show ever (sorry Buffy – your still my #1 series!). They set up a mystery or two, add in all sorts of twists and turns and incredible characters over the course of the season – and then answer all your questions by episode 22 – take that Lost.

      Have fun watching!

I’m going to have to check Veronica Mars out – I haven’t ever heard of her. I’ve been living under a rock for the last 5 years. What has got me all aflutter this week is GAME OF THRONES starting tonight! Also, hubby & have been watching Breaking Bad – which is also fantastic. I think we are on season 2.

If you’re a fan of Downton Abby you may like Call the Midwife. Season 2 premiers tonight on PBS!

And a little confession- I’ve never actually watched Veronica Mars! I should probably get on that train before the movie is made. I wonder if it’s available on Netflix/Hulu…

Call the Midwife is great!! I’m a BBC nut and I just saw the first three episodes on Netflix and LOVED them. A might too much for my husband (the sissy) but it’s so good. Plummy is my favorite!!!

I’ve never watched Veronica Mars… but I like the idea of fans rallying together and getting a movie made!

I’ve read quite a few of the books that Rory mentions on Gilmore Girls. I don’t think I’ll read the rest though :P

VERONICA!!! I adored this show more than is necessary or healthy. I donated, but I REALLY wanted to earmark my donation and say that if Logan and Veronica don’t end up together (after much angst, of course) I want my money back!
I cannot wait for this. CANNOT WAIT.

The husband and I very enthusiastically donated to the Veronica Mars Kickstarter project!!! Love that show. Nancy Drew Noir!! It totally recommend checking the show out before the movie is done. You will not be sorry!

That’s awesome @kellie76 – they had some great ‘rewards’ didn’t they? Wish I could have afforded one of the biggies – a backstage tour or premier party – how much fun would that be?
