New! Caldrea Body Products – review

Can a luxury housekeeping line make body products too? (Answer: they can, and well!)

You may have figured this out already, but the team at we heart are diehard beauty enthusiasts. That translates into makeup nine times out of ten. But there is a category that we heart just as much; body products.

We’ve all got certain areas of expertise/obsession; Tyna’s an exfoliator fanatic, I have more body lotions than there are people in my town, and I know a certain tester that can barely take a shower in her bathroom for fear of a body wash avalanche. And so on, and so on…

But when it comes to body products, there’s one thing that ties all of our loves together – scent. I’m excited to bring you a line today that’s going to have a lot of us very happy, because the scents are absolutely amazing. It’s the Caldrea Body collection.

Yes, THAT Caldrea! The makers of the luxurious line of homekeeping products has made the obvious leap into the body product world. And the results are as good as you’d hope.

The entire line contains no phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde, sulfates, dea or artificial colors, and is vegan and not tested on animals. Caldrea rightly says that they’re “made from ingredients worthy of being this close to you.”

There are six body products available: body wash, bar soap, crème, lotion, oil and perfume. And hold on to your hats for the scents; they are Aloe Water Apricot, Tea Olive Lime and Coconut Fig Leaf.

We got three products to explore, in all three scents. And it’s a testament to just how good these scents are that I just can’t pick a favorite!

My favorite product is the Body Oil ($24, 4 oz). My body is very much like the desert in which it dwells, so oils are a very good thing for me. Caldrea’s is a beautiful offering. With a base of Apricot Kernel oil and a slew of others (like Sweet Almond, Avocado and Grape Seed) it leaves a dewy, moisturized glow to my skin.

The packaging is no slouch either; a pump top clear glass bottle with a patterned back, packaged in a slide-out box with the same pattern. Gift giving worthy indeed! Especially in the Tea Olive Lime scent (which Caldrea calls No. 2).

The notes are:
Top – lime, mandarin, orange
Middle – osmanthus, lime blossom, tea
Base – vanilla, orchid, sandalwood

It’s definitely the green scent of the bunch; a citrus-based green that’s bright and alive. The base notes give it some sensual roots though (and keep you from smelling like a bowl of fruit!)

The scent that I do find myself being drawn to most is Aloe Water Apricot (No. 1), but still not picking a favorite, don’t hold me to it!

The notes are:
Top – ozone, orange, bergamot, lemon
Middle – aqua lotus, peony, apricot, rose, tuberose, white lily
Base – cashmere, white woods, musk

Let me say, I am not an aquatic scent lover. That sharp, ozone smell that usually comes with water scents actually gives me a headache. But Aloe Water Apricot is so, so different. A dash of fruit and a scattering of white florals, over a musk and wood base give this an easy prettiness that very fresh, very summer.

It’s PERFECT for the product I tried it in, Body Wash ($18, 11.5 oz). It had everything you’d want; great suds and a lingering scent, with the benefit of brightening, free-radical fighting Angelica Root and Linden Flower extracts.

Finally, there’s the alluring scent of the bunch Coconut Fig Leaf (No. 3).

The notes are:
Top – coconut, white fig, plum
Middle – violet, clover
Base – sandalwood, cedarwood, musk

If you are a fig lover (I am) you can detect that dark, spicy note in an instant (I can!) Paired with coconut and woods, you get an exotic blend that smells like a balmy, tropical night.

The scent is a great match for the Body Crème ($24, 6 oz) which is like a blend of a butter and a lotion. Slather it on, let the Shea Butter rich product sink in, and your skin not only smells sexy, but looks pretty sexy too.

Scent is such a personal thing, which Caldrea scent speaks loudest to you? I can attest, you’re going to like what it’s saying!

Caldrea!! I LOVE their hand soaps; I got some as a gift and ended up hoarding it so it would last longer. (Everyday messes for regular handsoap, I used the Caldrea when i was feeling fancy…am I the only one who does stuff like this?)

Aloe Water Apricot sounds amazing, but I think I’d have to go for Coconut Fig Leaf, especially as a body lotion. It sounds perfect for summer; I can pretend I’m in a tropical getaway instead of an overly air-conditioned office with fluorescent lighting…

I do things like that @lyssachelle – I’m a total hoarder with products! The problem is sometimes I hoard things for so long that they go bad while I wait for the ‘right’ occasion to use them! I’ve had that happen with lotions and serums, so I try to use my “fancy” home, bath and body items – but I still hoard them sometimes!

I love Caldrea cleaning stuff and had no idea they were coming out with personal care products! All of the scents sound delectable, but the cedar, violet, and fig notes in the Coconut Fig Leaf are extra appealing.

Thanks for the great review@stef and story of Caldrea Body Products! I love a company with such high standards! I’m zooming in on the Coconut white fig leaf and if it’s got a hint of sandalwood, cedarwood and musk I’m really wanting to get a whiff!!! I think we deserve to treat out bodies better with well made products! I must’ve had my head in the sand again, so I’m super interested in finding out even more now!! I bet the scents are amazing, they sure sound great to me!

That’s awesome! I love their fancy hand soaps too! (Have you seen their gorgeous glass dispensers with the geometric designs? LOVE.) I can only imagine their products for the body would be amazing too! Interesting scent combos. Tea olive lime sounds right up my alley – crisp, green smells!

@stef, thanks for the very detailed review, even to detailing the top, middle, and base notes of the aloe water (from what I read, it is amazing). This is one great collection. I wasn’t familiar with it and would love to start using the items.

I’m no brand whore but I seriously squealed when I read this post. I fell in love with Caldrea a few years ago when I received a sample inside a beauty subscription box (can’t recall which one) but it was a hand soap sample & whoa, it was amazing! It’s not bargain priced so I completely understand saving it for fancy time. I had no idea they were releasing a body line, I couldn’t see spending so much on cleaning & household supplies on my budget but this will definitely have to find its way into my regimen somehow..
