As a new parent it’s pretty easy to get lost down the rabbit hole that is researching the best products for my baby. Like many folks I’m increasingly concerned about all the chemicals we’re exposed to each day. But all that research can get exhausting – and down right confusing! Where do you draw the line?

In her new book The Honest Life, Jessica Alba breaks it down for us. With a chapter for each facet of life, she gives a guide for how she and her family live. With tips on everything from food, dressing before, during, and after baby, and parenting advice; this book really does have it all!

Best of all are the “Keeping it Real” tips. No one is perfect, and Jessica keeps it real. With “no lectures, no judgment, no guilt” this book is a fresh breath of air for people, not just parents, everywhere.

But Jessica doesn’t just talk the talk, she walks the walk! Founded with the help of Christopher Gavigan, The Honest Company provides products you can feel good about using.

All the products were created with the mindset that they should be innovative, effective, eye-pleasing and non-toxic – and they are also cruelty-free. With everything from diapers to dish soap, there’s something for everyone in the family. My favorites are the body products, multitasking tools good for mama and baby!

When it comes to protecting skin, there is the Honest Healing Balm ($12.95). It is great for minor irritations like heat rash or that weird rub burn that new sandals can cause. A little goes a long way and it can be tacky for a while after application, so keep that in mind.

Honest Sunscreen SPF 30 ($13.95) is hypoallergenic, water resistant, and reef safe broad-spectrum protection for the whole family with zero “sunscreen” scent.

Best of all, the active ingredient is zinc oxide, no PABA or oxybenzone in sight! Both the balm and the sunscreen separate a little, but kind of squishing the tube before squeezing the product out takes care of that.

Honest Face and Body Lotion ($9.95) is a gentle, super moisturizing lotion that is vegan and fragrance free. (Yes, really and actually fragrance free.) As the name implies, it’s a multitasker and can be used on both the face and body – anywhere you need some soothing moisture. And just how cool is that blue tipped dispenser?

Lastly, the Honest Body Oil ($9.95) is also vegan and easily absorbs into the skin. It is perfect for massaging baby’s tender skin and Moms will love the soft citrus scent formulated from organic mandarin oil. Both the oil and the face and body lotion are fantastic products for those with sensitive skin, with hydration that lasts all day.

As my son continues to explore his world by putting everything he can in his mouth, it’s comforting to know that I can reduce his exposure to harmful chemicals with products that work. Best of all, The Honest Company donates diapers to needy children with every purchase!

Readers – So tell me honestly, where would you like to reduce your chemical exposure?

Excellent review @mandaleem! I’ve been curious about the Honest brand for awhile now. I got to try one of their lipbalms which is great, I’ll have to pick up some more of these products, especially looking for good sunscreen is hard to find without a ton of chemicals.

This is so timely, not because of my baby but because I just commented yesterday on needing a good hypoallergenic sunscreen!

Honest is a great company; I tried a sample pack of diapers and products when my son was born and while I’m not thrilled about their diapers, their skin products are amazing. They have a lemongrass hand soap that smells lovely and not baby-like at all!

I don’t think as much as I should about limiting my harmful chemical exposure, but I think a LOT about limiting my son’s. It’s unavoidable, but I definitely try to do what I can when I can. When I first tried Honest, they were just starting and didn’t have this range of products, I’m going to have to take another look!

    @mandabear & @turboterp – baby shower gifts – what a great idea!

I usually go for scented lotions but I have their natural one and it’s nice when I don’t want to clash with a different fragrance I’m wearing. Love the idea of a healing balm though! How do all those mysterious blisters, scrapes, and cuts appear anyway?!

This looks like a great line. I love what it stands for and would love to get some of this for a co-worker who just had her fist baby!!
BTW, I saw this line (shampoo and conditioner) at Costco last night.. I am in no need for either at the moment but checked out the ingredients and think the line looks worthy of giving it a go in the near future! Great review @mandaleem!

I just started reading up on Honest a few months ago. I definitely want to limit chemicals in all of my products, especially for my children and these featured products sound wonderful. And not too pricy either…

I didn’t get to try all of these for any extended time, just to take photos. But I can say the Sunscreen left that tell tale Sunscreen white on my skin. And for a sunscreen finicky person like myself – I did not like that. On the VERY good side, the Healing Balm is the bomb! The minute I put this on my skin, it felt good! It’s very salve like. And being a Calendula junkie, I know how good this is for for skin. It would do wonders on chaffed baby bottoms as intended, or any other bit of skin that needs some extra skin. Know this, when I photograph products, I have a list of products that are “must buy” and the Healing Balm went straight on it.

I love what Jessica Alba is doing with The Honest Company. Brava!

I have to agree with @lipglossandspandex. I have the Face and Body Lotion and some other products which aren’t listed here. There isn’t quite enough “oomph” to the items (I don’t know how else to explain myself). But I certainly do appreciate the pure formulas!

I too have been curious about this brand for awhile. I appreciate the informative review. I am always looking for safer products for my body. I will probably skip the sunscreen. I also hate the dreaded white face. I already too white. But there are plenty of other products in the line that sound great.
