3 things: The Oscars 2014

From the dresses, hairstyles and accessories on the Red Carpet, to the surprising wins, acceptance speeches and Ellen’s hosting duties, the Academy Awards is the subject of the day.

So let’s get right to it and play a round of 3 Things, Oscar style:

Best Dressed: For me, the best dressed of the night was Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o in her pale blue, plunging necklined, very-pleated Prada dress. It had such an Audrey Hepburn feel to me (she’s a fave of mine) and the cut and color were perfect for Lupita. Oh, plus she had a matching Clarin’s lip balm in her bag!

Favorite Ellen Moment: I thought Ellen did a great job hosting the event and my favorite moment was seeing my local go-to pizza delivery place, Big Mama’s and Papa’s, make a special delivery to the A-listers in the front seats. If you are ever in Hollywood and need pizza, a 2 liter of soda AND french fires delivered all at once – you know who to call!

Favorite Winner’s Speech: Twenty years later and it’s still hard for me not to scream “All right, all right, all right” as soon as Matthew McConaughey appears on screen. (If you haven’t memorized “Dazed and Confused” yet, get on it!) In fact, I tweeted that out before the Best Actor winner quoted it in his acceptance speech. (Score one for the we heart this twitter feed!) I was thrilled for his win, and admit to getting rather teary eyed when McConaughey choked up during his heartfelt and humble acceptance speech

Your turn, we heartsters. Cut and paste the following and tell us these 3 Things!

Best Dressed: I LOVED Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka. It was so old Hollywood. And her hair with the soft waves and her stunning lilac, I just thought the whole look was stunning.

Favorite Ellen Moment: The selfie was brilliant, but my favorite moment was her Liza Minelli joke in the beginning, where she pointed her out and said she’s the best Liza impersonator she’d ever seen. “Good job, sir.”

Favorite Winner’s Speech: I didn’t like Matthew Mcconaughey’s speech! I thought it was spacey and kind of self righteous. But I loved Jared Leto’s. And boy, didn’t he look pretty giving it?

Surprise, I didn’t’ watch a minute of it but today when looking at pictures, Cate looked amazing..

I’m betting Ellen was hilarious as usual, she’s just plain funny 100% of the time!

This morning I did watched both speeches by Leto and McConaughey this morning..
Loved his little speech, It’s refreshing to hear someone actually acknowledging God’s hand on their life in a meaningful way. a lovely change of pace, instead of always about themselves.. Leto speech was really cool.. unfortunately, most of the people he was sending this message to wont’ get to even hear it..Unfortunately, those in Ukraine didn’t watch the earnest support live, and won’t get to watch it until Tuesday, and some in Venezuela won’t be able to watch at all:
That’s because the private channel Venevision, for the first time in several decades of carrying the Academy Awards, did not broadcast the show Sunday night. :(

Best Dressed: I usually go right for the sparkle, but I thought Sandra Bullock looked like glamour personified. I also loved Jennifer Lawrence’s red peplum, but wasn’t crazy about her hair.

Favorite Ellen Moment: The selfie was cute, and yes, I re-tweeted. But I really loved her line to Jonah Hill: “You showed us something in that film that I have not seen for a very, very long time.”

Favorite Winner’s Speech: Jared Leto made me cry. I was so happy he won, and so touched by his humble, heartfelt delivery.

I JUST watched this last night, my son absconded with the remote so I couldn’t get to our DVR! (Toddlers, man…)

Best Dressed: Lupita Nyong’o, with Anna Kendrick in a close second. Lupita was so youthful but classic, just stunning. And Anna wows me in everything she does, I adore her.

Favorite Ellen Moment: I think my favorite was a small one—when, after Travolta butchered Idina Menzel’s name, Ellen repeated it twice after Idina’s performance. It felt like she was giving Idina her due, since it was such a big moment.
(And I know he has dyslexia, but dude. You’re an actor and you’ve had rehearsals. Come on, now. Plus, I’m a theater kid, butchering her name is like calling the baby Jesus Craig….)

Favorite Winner’s Speech: Lupita. She was gracious, humble, thrilled beyond belief and gave a solid nod to those that came before her and the spirit of the character in which she played. She is such a class act, I want to play her speech there and at the Essence awards for little girls everywhere.

I thought Cate looked amazing and also liked Naiomi Watts’ understated white dress.

I thought Ellen was awesome and hope she hosts again next year. Fav moment would be the pizza delivery and selfie for sure…so funny! And John Travolta…really, you couldn’t spend 30 sec backstage asking how to pronounce her name?!…someone should take his gift bag away! Lol

Best speech I like Lupita’s and Matthew McConaughey’s.

The Oscars overwhelm me every year. It literally envelope me (I live a mile down the street from the venue) and my work is all Oscars, all the time for the weeks leading up to the event. I love it though, and I’m usually lucky enough to have Oscar Sunday off to enjoy the show. This year I had a glass of bubbly and some caviar while pondering these exact questions…

Best Dressed: Either Angelina or Jennifer Lawrence. I loved the deep red but I am SUCH a sucker for sparkle (especially when it’s a beaded overlay with a nude underpinning (or that’s what it appeard to be anyway). Extra points for a Deco-like starburst design. Jennifer’s just fit so perfect and the shade of red was impeccable for her coloring.
Favorite Ellen Moment: She did great. I did enjoy her remark about 12 Years A Slave winning long before it actually did, alluding to Old White Men’s Guilt. Probably this is partly, painfully true. It’s also partly, painfully fine with me. I was hoping for Gravity, though. I still like to be entertained at the movies.
Favorite Winner’s Speech: The Dallas Buyers Club guys were favorites for different reasons. Jared Leto’s was sweet, at once giving credit where credit is due (his mom) and reminding us of the gravity of the AIDS crisis as well as a bit for equality today. His Best Actor co-star gets the “most un-boring” acceptance award. McConaughey was out there, funny and had the most visual details (hey, dad in heaven drinking a Miller Lite, what’s up?) but was very ego-centric considering the topic of the movie he won for (emember when Tom Hanks won for Philadelphia?). The topic deserved a little humility, the award deserved the unabashed happiness. One out of two ain’t bad.

Best Dressed: Lupita Nyong’o hands down. You could pick her out in the sea of celebrities. The pale blue flattered her beautifully and she picked just the right accessories.

Favorite Ellen Moment: It’s hard to pick a best Ellen moment as she did so well, but I’d have to go with her coming out decked out in the Good Witch get up. I died from laughter. There is something about her being in that outfit I find completely hysterical.

Favorite Winner’s Speech: Now, I have to go away from the pack and not go with ANY of the male winners. I have to go with Lupita Nyong’o’s acceptance speech. It was empowering, inspiring and so beautiful in all of its simplicity. She can craft words. My favorite part of that entire speech was the end, because she left it on such an inspiring note. She said, “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.” I can’t even describe the amount of emotion that brings out. YOUR DREAMS ARE VALID. That woman can craft a speech. (You should watch her UNREHEARSED speech that she did for Essence magazine’s party when she received the Black Woman in Hollywood Breakthrough Year award. I bawled as I could related in a way although I am not black.)

I SAID THAT SAME THING!! I love her so much, everything I’ve read about her just makes me love her more.
And she brought her brother to the Oscars! I mean, come on, how adorable is that? (And did NOT kiss him uncomfortably, ANGELINA JOLIE…)

Best Dressed: I like Lupita because she stood out the most to me. You’ll always remember her gorgeous blue Prada dress. And that headband too.
Favorite Ellen Moment: Definitely the pizza party!!
Favorite Winner’s Speech: I think Jared Leto set the night off pretty nicely with his great speech.
