If your still working on that New Years resolutions to do some more good things in your life, let me introduce you to the 29-Day Giving Challenge. It’s an inspired idea from wht member, Cami that encourages people to give small gifts every day for 29 days to both pay things forward and receive some serenity back.
The 29-Day Giving Challenge began during a dark time in Cami’s life. She had recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (just two weeks after her honeymoon) and was dealing with a stressful move to a new city. One day while feeling overwhelmed, Cami spoke with her friend and spiritual healer, Mbali. In the midst of a litany of complaints to the healer, Mbali surprised her by suggesting Cami needed to give more of herself to others. She advised that Cami give away 29 gifts in 29 days in an effort to get outside her own struggle for a few seconds each day.
Soon afterward, Cami decided to give the notion a try. She started small; giving food to the homeless, doing favors for friends, offering time and sympathy to those that needed it. Soon, Cami was waking up each day excited to find something to give away and to see what effect it would have on others and herself. By the 29th day of giving, Cami was feeling happier, healthier and connecting with friends both new and old. Amazed at the positive effect the simple project had on her life, Cami wanted to share her experience with others and 29-Day Giving Challenge was born.

To get organized, you can print your own to 29 Day Giving Challenge calendar to keep track of your days and gifts. Keep it simple – gifts can be anything from donating some old clothes to a shelter to giving a friend a ride to shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk. As you cross the days off your calendar, you’ll soon be overflowing with ideas for gifts. If you forget a day, Cami advises that you “be gentle on yourself” but don’t quit. One final thought from 29-Gifts on why you should give? Because to see the world change, we have to do something to change the world.
