It’s no secret we’re obsessed with beauty products at we heart this. We also happen to have, let’s call it a sub-obsession, with beauty products that are organic or natural. It’s a branch of beauty that has been growing by leaps and bounds for years. Today, we’re taking a look at the latest offerings from three of the hottest names in green products.
First is one of the most trusted brands for green beauty, von Natur. This line covering face, bath and more is the gold standard of eco conscious brands. Every product from this vegan certified line uses “choice botanicals and pure, naturally derived ingredients…to bring to you a fresh and clean approach that is truly therapy for your skin. von Natur contains pure essential oils, not only for their aroma but also for their therapeutic values. (They) never use synthetic fragrances, unnecessary chemicals or animal byproducts.”
The Absolute Facial line caters to maturing and dry skin (other lines tackle Combinations, Sensitive and Oily and Acne prone skin types) and the Absolute Facial Moisturizer contains “Rose, DMAE, MSM, and Hyaluronic Acid that work together to provide your skin with the ultimate moisture, minimizing fine lines and rejuvenating your skin.” This face cream left my skin super soft and hydrated. It works well when mixing with an spf-fortified tint and helps apply a smooth, even layer. I love that each item in the von Natur catalog lists the amount of certified organic ingredients in it (a truth in marketing we love). This moisturizer contains 79% organic materials and like all Von Natur products, is never tested on animals.
Next up, is the holistic beauty company, Lulu Organics. They may have already caught your eye with their beautiful packaging and distinctive labels, which are hand screened in Vermont. The attention to detail from the simple and elegant brown (yet green) cardboard packaging to the lovely, vintage inspired graphics makes Lulu Organics deserve a place of honor on your vanity or dresser.
After mulling over the safety issues of using powders that contained talc, the first product launched by Lulu Organics was their incredible talc-free Hair Powder, now available in four fresh scents (Lavender & Clary Sage, Patchouli & Amber, Jasmine and Tuberose). Save water and time, as well as shampoo and deodorant, by skipping a day (or three) of hair washing. Just sprinkle a dime size amount of powder into your hands and rub through the roots of your hair. Voila! Grease is banished from the roots out, your hair looks and smells fresh and clean, and you get to sleep in an extra 20 minutes.
Keep a look out for Lulu’s latest as well. These self-professed lip balm fanatics have just released the very intriguing Ruby Mint Lip Balm!
Finally, Further Soap is an innovative and inspiring product from the minds of Megan and Marshall Dostal. This California couple has perfected a light and luxurious hand soap whose glycerin is derived from the process of making biofuel. The couple collects “used vegetable oil from some of the finest restaurants in LA, then processes it in (their) garage.” Bringing sustainable living to a whole new level the couple put “the biofuel into (their) cars and the glycerin goes into Further soap.”
Wow! The Dostals have been returning the soap to the L.A. restaurants they work with (look at that – the circle of life!) and now they are introducing Further Soap to the public. For the last few weeks, I’ve been testing the delicately scented soap made from essential oils of bergamot, olive, and exotic grasses and love it. I’m a compulsive hand washer and even after wash after wash, during the dry winter, the soap did not dry out my skin. I especially appreciated the light scent. Many soaps, while smelling yummy are just too strong. I don’t need to be sniffing orchids when I’m trying to eat dinner. Full marks to Further Soap for this delightful soap and their pioneering spirit.
