Want to know what is happening this very minute at we heart this? That’s an easy one; check our pulse to get an up close look at every beat of we heart this. (you can also reach this area through the top navigation bar by selecting “About” then “Community.”) Here you’ll see a list of everything that’s going on with our members; see who’s new at the site, recent comments, even interaction between members.
Which leads to the next item you should know about; how do you connect with other members on wht? With @Mentions, that’s how! Those with Twitter accounts will know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you aren’t a tweeter, allow me to explain…
Typing the “at” symbol and the person’s username will create an active link to that person’s profile. Like this: @Stef. What good is that, you ask? Besides the fact that links are your friend, it allows users to keep track of anyone who has mentioned them. Here’s how… when you are logged in to wht, from the Buddybar (the top grey toolbar) hover over your name in the top right corner, then Activity and @Mentions from the pop out menu. Here you will see a list of anyone who has spoke directly to you. It’s a great way to make sure you haven’t missed any funny comments or direct questions. Clever, no? We told you BuddyPress was fabulous!
There are a couple of additional ways to check for your mentions. Directly from your profile page, click Activity, then @Mentions. Or from the check our pulse page, select the far right tab, @Mentions (make sure you’re logged in for both).
Want to get a wht members attention? You can leave @Mentions on any comment you leave on the site (type the “at” symbol and the person’s username). Or, go directly to their profile, select Mention This User and leave a message for them on the wht Pulse (visible site wide). That member will be sent an email telling them you left a comment for them on the Pulse!
There’s one caveat to @Mentions, you have to use a member’s username rather than their full name. And it’s the full name that shows on post comments…d’oh! Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day and we hope to have that working a bit more fluidly soon. Till then, if you hover over the name you see in their comment (their full name), you will see their username in your navigation bar; use that for any @Mentions you write directly in posts.
Get chatting, chicks!
