As we mentioned earlier, BuddyPress allows we heart this (wht) to move beyond blogging and adds social networking features for all of our users to our site. Think of wht as a small facebook-type community with a population of beauty-loving, renaissance women. Today we’re talking groups.
Groups are smaller communities within the wht family of like-minded people – big dog owners, photography buffs, music fanatics, etc. Any member can join a public group. To take a look at all the active groups, visit HERE (you can also find it through the top navigation bar by selecting “About” then “Community”)
If you are a wht member, you can join any groups by clicking the ‘join group’ icon below the group’s title.
Members of groups can:
• Create a topic or join the conversation in the group’s forums. Because other than the eight groups that match our main categories (beauty & fashion, do-gooders, etc), you must be a member of a group to post in that group’s forums.
• Send private messages and announcements to all (or select) members of the group.
• Search the pulse for activity by fellow group members and @mentions using the My Groups tab.
• Invite fellow wht members to join the group.
If you don’t see a group for your latest obsession, email us, and if it’s something we think other members would be interested in, we’ll set it up for you!
If you’re overwhelmed by the 350 million plus users at Facebook, bored with fan pages that only want to sell you things or (heaven forbid) you can’t access Facebook at work, here’s a great way to get active in or create your very own micro-community. And get ready to hear that word a lot over the next few years, it’s the next step (and latest buzzword) in online social networking.
Now go join a group, like Mom always said, it’s good to get involved!
