It’s not too late to get a beautiful summer glow…

We’re not out of leg baring weather yet! Thankfully, RioBlush’s City Girl Firming Leg Shimmer ($55) is here to help. A girl’s dream come true for the legs: part shimmery bronzer, part firming leg cream- all in one!

So, the story goes that founder Kyra Panchenko (both an esthetician and makeup artist) was working with Kim Cattrall on Sex and the City: The Movie. In order to keep every inch of Samantha looking glamorous and gorgeous, Kyra developed a concoction of St. Tropez Self-Tanner, Murad Firming and Toning Serum, Orlane Refining Leg Cream, professional body makeup and shimmer. Genius, but not so easy. To make things more simple for the rest of us, Kyra came up with her own miracle broth based on the special mixture for Kim and has made it available as City Girl.

I’m happy to report that after only 1 use, I was already loving this product. It has a great clean, crisp scent, which is nice- not overwhelming. A strong or too perfume-y smell can cause me to put a product away for good. (Estee Lauder Body Tint. I’m looking at you!)

I don’t know about the rest of you – but I’ve always loved the idea of applying a light body makeup to my legs to mask imperfections year round, but most were either too greasy or too chalky. City Girl definitely hits the spot. Trying a new body bronzing product can strike fear in the most seasoned beauty addict – afraid they will be orange or that the product will accumulate in the wrong areas (ankles, knees, wrists, fingers, etc.). City Girl has no such drawbacks. The color blends seamlessly and is super easy to apply.

City Girl Left, subtle, no?

City Girl gives immediate bronze color, a dewy finish, shimmer and glow to the legs (or arms or any other part of the body). Did I mention the firming and cellulite busting benefits? With key ingredients like cellulite fighting caffeine, the cream is also a skin treatment. Clinical studies have shown noticeable results in skin’s appearance and elasticity, all while giving your skin a pretty, subtle tan.

Fans include Jessica Alba, Hilary Duff and Alicia Keys – a rather glowing bunch!

City Blush isn’t the most easy product to find. The only place I could find it was BeautyBay.com. But in my opinion, it’s worth the hunt for flawless legs. Testers, do you agree?

  1. Some time later, and I am still a big fan of the City Girl leg shimmer.
It helps camouflage slight imperfections and adds pizazz to a fading tan.
    What do you guys think?

  2. It does look amazing, but I could never justify the price.

  3. I got to test CityGirl, and honestly, I didn’t grasp the concept at first. Although I’m an old hand at self-tanners, I’d never used body makeup before, and was afraid it would look fake or rub off on my clothes. Needless worry! This stuff is great—- sheer, natural, moisturizing, and yes, firming! And it stays put, too.

It gives my legs (and arms) a pretty glow, and the shimmer is subtle. Ditto the scent, which was not overpowering at all.

I agree with @glamazon56 that CityGirl is easy to apply and covers imperfections, too. While it’s not something I would use on a daily basis, I could see investing for special occasions. 4 stars.

  4. This looks great…just not sure I could fork out $55 for it. Would love to see it in person though.

    1. Thanks for the link Maria!

  5. That’s some fancy shimmer and bronzer! I’ve never heard of RioBlush- City Girl-I like the name. Makes you miss the City! It also sounds like the ladies liked it. It sure looks great on your arm! I’m glad to hear that it doesnt’ smell horrible!

  6. This is beautiful!! I have GOT to come up with a way to justify the cost! I wish they sold a trial version.

  7. I looooooove the effect a little shimmer can have on the legs. I’m kinda short, and shimmer on my shins gives me that slightly more leggy look that I’m always after. Adding a slightly bronzed hue to that is such a great idea, City Girl sounds like a fun splurge!

  8. What gorgeous shimmer! Wow!! I would be thrilled to use it. If only the price was more manageable. Boo!!!

  9. I agree with @mandaleem – a bit pf color and shimmer can have a really lovely effect on your legs. Products like these see me through the summer months! I got to try City Girl, and like it quite a bit (though I can’t attest to the firming qualities at all). But I do have a couple of complaints…

Love: the squeeze tube and lotion consistency. It makes for easy application. My other favorite leg shimmers (by MAC and NARS) are both more liquid and are nowhere as easy to apply.

Not so much love: the scent. I found the smell a bit odd. Call me Miss Tropic, but I like my bronzers to smell summery. This smelled slightly medicine-y to me.

Not so much love: the glitter. This seems to have a combo of shimmer (which is good) and some chunky gold glitter too (which is bad).

Love: the color. This really does give a realistic glow. Not orangey at all, not too dark – just right.

Not so much love: the price. Eeek! I am the first to splurge, but this seems like even too much for me.

I’m going 3 stars on City Girl. I’d go up a star for a drop in price.

  10. Hmm, I found this stuff is really heavy and kind of dark. You’ve got to blend really well. The color is not orange–just kind of dark. The shimmer is pretty intense so I used this only at night because I think subtlty is better for day looks. Unfortunately, during the day is when I want my legs to look particularly tan, firm and trim. I think this is great for photo shoots and makeup artist-types but can be dangerous is the casual applier’s hands unless you’re already quite tan. I like it on the upper body (chest, arms and shoulders) for sculpting. Still, I’m quite careful.
I don’t know about the cellulite claims but it is a good mask if you get it right. I did worry about it rubbing off on clothes, furniture and other people. It does rub off a little, but not too much if you are thorough in your application.
For the price I like the lighter beige shimmer of Midnight Cowboy shimmer body lotion from Urban Decay.
