I’m a huge fan of farmers markets. Where else can you take a mundane errand like grocery shopping and turn it into a scenic, heavenly scented and tasty event that’s the highlight of my week?
Of course, there’s also all sorts of good side effects caused by taking a weekly stroll through your community market. You’ll get the freshest produce around, help out the environment by cutting out shipping, storage, packaging etc, and support your local farmers and community.
This Etsy 4 for Friday I’m shopping for a few goods to make my weekly farmers market trip just that much better:
• My West Hollywood market is filled with people carrying the cutest totes. This aqua colored Large & Boxy Market Basket is so cute it would stand out in the crowd! Handmade in Guatemala by locals using “plastic threads” this large tote can carry heavy produce in style. $55
• Oh how I wish I had the Farmer’s Market Block Print Poster hanging in my kitchen (it would perfectly match my yellow and aqua 50s decor). This gorgeous block print poster was made with an original design created for the market in San Francisco’s famous Mission District. One of 15 posters in this small batch – each poster is laboriously crafted with hand tools and “lots of elbow grease.” Size 24 x 36 inches. $450
• Beyond a cute, sturdy tote, I also need a number of smaller bags to keep my finds safe and separate. These Reusable Nylon Mesh Produce Bags are just the thing! Made with heavy duty nylon mesh, they are see-through, durable, lightweight and washable. They also work double duty in the grocery store produce department and let you skip those flimsy, plastic bags. $2 each
• If you can’t get to the farmers market, bring the tastes of the farm to your home with treats from BiscottiQueen. I had a hard time picking just one item from their tantalizing, farm-fresh goods, but went with the Organic Blueberry Jam. Hand made with summer ripe berries grown in North Carolina, this jam can help ease the pain of early mornings this fall. $6.50
