Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

This holiday season MAC is making sure all of us can enjoy a bit of a winter wonderland, courtesy of the three limited edition Snowglobe eye shadow palettes ($38), part of their HUGE Ice Parade holiday 2011 collection.

Since this is MAC, snow is replaced with glitter (of course) The snowglobe is a dome on the top of each palette, with a silvery background. Give ’em a shake and you have a fabulous snowstorm! A bit of a novelty, yes…but they did the trick – I’m absolutely tickled by them.

A teeny bit smaller than a standard MAC palette, they contain six shadows and a brush and are offered in cool, warm or sultry color themes. I got a chance to check out the cool palette…

Left row, top to bottom:
Snowball is white with a shimmery, frost finish and call me crazy, but I see a slight greenish cast. Howzat has a satin finish, and is a silvery gray with a bit of purple. Illegal Cargo is medium grey with a slight purple cast and a less than frosty frost finish (it seems more pearl than frost). I wish this one had a bit more color payoff, it’s a really pretty color.

Right row, top to bottom:
Idol Eyes is a silvery periwinkle sort of shade; kind of blue, kind of lavender, with a lustre finish. They say it has gold in it, I don’t see it. But this was the color that when I swatched it sealed the deal that I would be keeping this palette! It’s beautiful. Warm & Smoky is a deep bluish purple with a light sheen that looks like the exact same color as Idol Eyes. It’s got a veluxe pearl finish and is all kinds of gorgeous. Set to Dance is a dark plummy black. It’s matte, with a slightly chalky consistency.

Snowball, Howzat, Illegal Cargo

Idol Eyes, Warm & Smoky, Set to Dance

Two of the shades could definitely use a bit more color payoff. And honestly I can’t use the brush at all, that small handle is too hard for me to maneuver. But overall, I’m really happy with this palette. Cool and pretty colors in an extremely festive package!

we heartsters, anyone feeling the need to give these a shake?

  1. I’m sucker for MAC’s grays and silvers, and the snowglobe compact is just too cute to resist! Idol Eyes looks gorgeous, too. I’ll be picking this up for sure.

  2. How fun are these Snowglobe eye shadow palettes! Idol Eyes, Warm & Smoky, along with Set to Dance really look awesome.
I’d so be shaking the dome -wouldn’t be able not to! When I opened this up this morning, I really was wowed once again by MAC!

  3. Wow, MAC has outdone itself with a gorgeous, fun compact! I love the cool colors, they actually look different on your skin than what I expected just from looking at the compact. Love, love, love these! I know what’s going on my Xmas list!

  4. Ooo, that first shot is SO PRETTY! I love palettes and the Warm and the Sultry palettes look just up my alley. The packaging does it for me, how FUN is that?? Thanks for the review, @stef!

  5. I love the snowglobe, silly yes, but really cute. I think the warm sounds amazing!

    1. @lucylemonade – the warm palette also has my favorite MAC brown shadow EVER; Buckwheat. I think it’s worth it for that alone.

  6. Awww, the packing is so cute!

I’ve never had much luck with the brushes included in compacts, so I’m not terribly surprised. I always wish that they would just leave out the brushes and include another color or two!

From what I’ve seen I prefer the Warm palette, but I can see how this goes much better with the snowglobe theme. Warm&Smokey is my favorite of the colors for this palette, it’s got so much depth!

  7. MAC packaging totally suckers me in every time.

Also, I’m super jealous that you have blue sky where you are! In Washington state, we probably are done seeing the sun for a few months. :(
