Soap and Glory - Sexy Mother Pucker and Hand Food reviewphotos: we heart this

One of the most dreaded phrases in the beauty world (2nd only to “limited edition”) is “discontinued.” There’s nothing worse than finding a go-to brand and watching it go bye-bye.

One of my go-to brands was always Soap and Glory. This fantastic bath and body brand hailing from the UK has all the makings of a perfect gift; cute packaging, kitschy tag lines, etc. So you can understand my dismay when I found out Soap and Glory would no longer be carried at my local big box store!

Thankfully my favorite cosmetics chain, Sephora, has stepped up to the plate. While I relied heavily on Soap and Glory for last minute gifts, I admittedly never bought any for myself (Gasp!) So when these adorable little packages showed up at my door I knew it was time to put my mouth (and hands!) where my money had been.

Closer look of Soap and Glory Hand Food

First up, Soap and Glory Hand Food ($10, 4.2 oz), the “Original Pink” scented hand cream. While I’m not sure what “pink” smells like this hand cream has a very distinctive smell It smells both extremely clean and powdery at the same time, but very artificial. The scent is rather strong and doesn’t go away very quickly, so I have a feeling it’s a love it or hate it aspect of the product.

The cream doesn’t sink in very quickly and leaves a sort of slippery, not quite greasy film. It’s not terribly bothersome, but I couldn’t turn my tableside light off for nearly 20 minutes after applying! That said, Hand Food is where it’s at for serious skin renewal. My cuticles look amazing considering I’ve yet to find my winter gloves, and my skin has never felt softer. I’m sold!

Closer look of Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme-Plump Collagen Lip Shine

I also received Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme-Plump Collagen Lip Shine ($22). Branded as one of the most extreme lip plumping glosses on the market, I had high expectations for this gloss. The scent is the first thing I noticed- slightly reminiscent of cheap chocolate. Luckily, it’s seems to dissipate quickly.

Once applied I felt a slight tingling sensation on my lips, but none of the va-va-voom promised. While my lips did seem to plump up slightly, I think the only difference in visible size is an optical illusion caused by the gloss itself.

On a side note, my husband said his lips felt “itchy” after kissing me, likely due to the gloss. Soap and Glory recommends Sexy Mother Pucker XL Extreme-Plump gloss to mavens already accustomed to plumping glosses. Maybe it’s my habit of eating crazy spicy foods that made the tingle less noticeable?

While I’m glad that Soap and Glory can still be found this side of the pond, this review was a hit and miss for me. What do you think ladies? Are you relieved Soap and Glory is back again?

  1. I have never heard of this brand, but am always on a hunt for the perfect hand cream. My hands are a mess! I need to try this to see if the scent is a deal breaker…
    Great review!

    1. The great thing about S&G being available in Sephora is the readiness of samples! Ask a sales person to give you a little in a jar and test away. Most all S&G products have the same “pink” smell, so be aware of that and good luck!

  2. The packaging would catch my eye if I saw this line in a store, so I understand why you’ve given the products as gifts, @mandaleem . Hand Food is the product I would try. My hands are so dry already, a little greasiness would be a small price to pay for results.

  3. I have used their pores no more scrub and am currently using the fabpore facial peel mask and it is wonderful. They do have lovely products.

    1. Ooh, good to know Daphne! I love a good facial mask/peel, I’ll have to check it out. Does it have the signature scent? I could see that being a bit much so close to my nose…

  4. I have never heard of this brand either.. but thanks to @mandaleem and WHT I have now! Will look for this at my next visit to Sephora. I love good hand creams and will also look for the lip plumping glosses!

  5. I’ve seen Soap and Glory at Target I believe, I love their packaging but never really picked up anything to try. I might keep an eye out for them at Sephora.

    1. Yep, that was the big box store I was referring to! The Sephora nearest to us is pretty liberal with samples so I’d ask to try before you buy, the scent can be kinda divisive.

  6. Hand Food is still a regular at my bed side table, and I’ve since added a tube to my handbag. (New Enland winters can be rough!) The prolonged greasiness isn’t a terrible price to pay for such great results, so I’m a-okay with it all. I *could* do with a lighter scent, it’s a bit much at times.
As for Sexy Mother Pucker? Eh, it’s made it’s way to the back of my lipgloss drawer. (Yes, I have a lipgloss drawer, don’t judge! IRS a sickness, I know…) It’s not quite moisturizing enough for winter, and the plumping is negligible. Maybe I’ll whip it back out come summer, but I’ll pass for now.
Overall? 4 stars for Hand Food (-1 for the scent) and 2 for Sexy Mother Pucker. Let’s split the difference and give Soap and Glory a 3 star rating. Good effort and kitschy fun!

  7. The packaging and price are good (and I looove Target)… however, I can’t use anything that’ll make my boyfriend’s lips itchy or tingly. I had to get rid of my Buxom glosses for that reason (or only use them at work, before I get home).

  8. Great review @mandaleem! I remember these at Target but I never gave this brand a shot until I saw them appear at Sephora. I was pretty excited because I felt like I was too late on the Hand Food game. I really like this stuff and use it primarily before I go to bed. It has a distinct smell and it may not be for everyone but I do love the product. They sell smaller sizes for $5 each but the biggest bargain is the $10 size for sure!
