Three Quick Steps to go from the Sand to Happy Hour
As the temperature rises and we enter the dog days of summer, simplicity and comfort take over. The warm breeze welcomes easy-going attitudes and you shouldn’t miss a moment of the fun scouring your closet for the perfect look.
The more time I can spend by the pool or the ocean, the better; so making a seamless transition from the beach to happy hour or a friend’s patio BBQ is important.
Here are three no-stress steps to embracing the summer’s latest trends while making the beach-to-tiki bar transition easy.
1. Make your cover-up work as a stand-alone piece
Rather than throwing on an old college tee shirt and shorts, pick a stylish cover-up that you can wear straight to afternoon happy hour. Tap into this summer’s hi-lo hem and maxi dress trends with Target’s Hi-Lo Floral Print Dress. Or, for the die-hard shorts-and-tee-shirt girls, pair this Calvin Klein open-knit short-sleeved sweater (found at Macy’s) with cute bottoms in the color of summer like these linen blend coral drawstring shorts from wallet-friendly H&M.
2. Step away from the rubber flip-flops
Shoe designers have gotten very creative with the latest sandal styles and as a result are breathing new life into flip-flops. The traditional rubber sole style still works for the walk to the water, but transitioning into evening calls for a change in footwear.
3. Bag it
I will opt for an oversized tote any day of the week (you never know what you might need!) but in the summertime, a heavy, lofty bag can be too much. Opt for something a bit lighter weight that can be stashed back at the house en route to the party. Then switch to a small, bright colored cross-body bag to stash the essentials and keep your hands free.
Whether your favorite summer spot is on the sand or places you poolside, your lazy days of summer can be spent relaxing and enjoying the season while still looking amazing.
