How to pull off the Little White Dress – Plus a look at the color combo of the season, Grey and Yellow!
Hi wht readers – I’m so excited to be writing for you guys! My name’s Roya and I am joining the we heart this team as a contributing fashion blogger. I’ve been a fashion fan for many years and, like many of you probably have, experimented and played with many trends and styles. I look forward to sharing some of my discoveries with all of you.
For my first post I’d like to let y’all in on some trends I’m seeing on the red carpet – and in the everyday. Down here in Florida, summer’s been here, since March. Celebrities are adjusting to the heat by transitioning out LBDs for LWDs. Yep, Little White Dresses are taking over! Celebrities such as Camilla Belle, Sofia Vergara, and Kate Middleton have all used the LWD as a canvas to show off their personal style.
The key to rocking this look is to find a silhouette you look good in and the right shade of white for your skin tone. If you think bleach white washes you out, try a more universal off-white or even ivory shade (braces for backlash from purists who say ivory isn’t white to object…nothing happens) I digress…
Here’s a look I created for y’all on Polyvore with a LWD I loved. This would be a great way to wear an LWD for brunch, lunch, or a casual get together.
The LWD for Brunch:
The LWD looks great with gold and bronze accents (like the Miso Charm Bangles Set and Woodland Fox Necklace I’ve included in the set), especially when worn against a golden summer tan (from a bottle of course). You can also add in a few bits of bright color in your accessories (how cute are those Palazzo Bruciato Orange Ballerina Slippers?) which will really pop against the basic white.
On to the next look…If you browse Pinterest half as often as I do, you’ll see that its users are CRAZY about grey and yellow. I love it too. My favorite neutral mixed with what is often considered an intimidating color? FABULOUS!
This combo is so appropriate for summer too. Grey doesn’t have the heaviness of black, but can still add a sultry, smoky twist to a summer outfit. Yellow emits the natural smiles and happiness of summer and all its privileges. In fact, yellow heels are the fashionista’s choice shoe of summer 2012. Beyonce and Rachel Bilson have recently displayed a little sunshine on their feet.
I wanted to create an outfit that was a little more practical for an everyday-girl-running-errands but still integrated the adorable color palette. Here’s something I came up with:
Grey and Yellow Palette for Summer Days:
How divine are those J Brand Denim neon-chartreuse jeans? But my favorite bits are the matching red polka dot bag and earrings. Yes, please!
And finally, to just completely blow your minds, here’s a way to wear a LWD with grey and yellow accents. I guarantee, you will definitely make “Best Dressed” with a universally flattering outfit like this.
Mixing the Trends of Summer 2012:
I love the vintage feel of the white Top Shop dress. And if you can’t afford the Ally Capellinovita Grey Clutch, our latest DIY shows you how to make your own!
Finally, while I love to shop and plan fabulous outfits, I gotta say my go-to accessories, the ones that look great with any outfit are these two:
