The September fashion magazines have overtaking the newsstands (and my bedside table) and my hair has waved the white flag of surrender to the summer humidity. Needless to say, I am excitedly eyeing this year’s fall fashion trends.
I am always watching the latest trends and keeping an eye on the best sales to determine what looks to add to my closet. There are a ton of versatile pieces available this season that can wrap up your summer and carry you through fall.
Here are my top 5 picks to wear now and into fall.
1. Chambray shirt
Wear now: A chambray shirt is the perfect balance of a classic, Oxford-style polish with a relaxed summertime vibe. Pair with white shorts and sandals.
Wear later: Wear with wine or mustard colored skinny jeans and riding boots for a laid-back weekend look.
2. Maxi skirt
Wear now: Short girls can rock the maxi too! The maxi skirt can be worn with a simple racer-back tank and sandals for a quiet al fresco dinner date.
Wear later: The maxi can be perfect on those fall days that still have a touch of summer to them. Floor-grazing skirts definitely look best with sandals or flat short-shaft boots, and when worn with a light-weight sweater, this is a great transitional piece.
3. Twill mini
Wear now: A bright twill mini skirt is the perfect summer office look. Pair with a tee or a modestly cut tank, cardigan, and flat sandals for a polished and office-appropriate look.
Wear later: Throw a striped sweater on with the mini and pair with simple ballet flats for crisp fall days.
4. Open-knit sweater
Wear now: To the beach! Love these as breezy beach cover-ups.
Wear later: Layer over a brightly colored long-sleeve tee and pair with jeans and boots for a Friday night dinner-and-a-movie date.
5. Hot wedges (are wedges ever not hot?)
Wear now: Wedges can make all the difference in dressing up a shorts-and-tank combo when heading out at night.
Wear later: I am a huge fan of wearing nude wedges into the fall with skinny jeans, sparkly shirt and blazer; show off your coral toes for as long as you can!
Tip: Take advantage of the late-summer and fall preview sales and add these pieces to your closet. Your wallet will thank you later!
