Resort 2013 Trends

The January chill has set in and it has me dreaming of tropical temperatures and sandy beaches. While I don’t have a sunny getaway on the books (yet!) a girl can dream; and I have been spying vacation-inspired Pintrest boards and eyeing the latest resort lines out in stores.

Whether you’re in the midst of planning a vacation with friends and family, or are just an avid daydreamer like me, here are our top 5 picks from this year’s resort lines for the budget-conscious perma-vacationer.

1. Peplum — This fancy-meets-casual style has been making the rounds over the past several seasons and will be coming with us into 2013. Try Topshop’s peplum magenta tank for a night at the resort.

2. Big Prints – When going for a pattern, you really can’t go wrong with chevron. Try this Target chevron beach bag for toting all your vacation essentials.

3. Stripes – One item that is always a must for time by the coast, is a comfy oversized sweater, and this slouchy striped one (now on sale at SheInside.com) is a great option for when the sun goes down or your cozying up to the bonfire.

4. Sporty – These summery and casual Linen Drawstring Pants from 2b are great to pull on over your bathing suit for poolside appetizers or your walk to and from the sand.

5. Brights – Try this trend in a classic piece, like Old Navy’s Women’s Camp Shirt (it’s available in several bright, beachy shades); it can be paired with your white skinnies or tossed over your bathing suit for a casual cover-up.

Just because you’re breaking into the vacation fund early in the year, doesn’t mean that your look needs to suffer. Enjoy your getaway in style!

Too busy to get away, but still find yourself dreaming of the beach? Treat yourself to this Trina Turk gold coral necklace, crank the heat, pour yourself a lemonade and dig into some guac and chips!

  1. I remember when I first starting following fashion and I began to hear about “resort” collections. It was a a new concept to me. What, you go on vacation in Jan? Who does that? Oh…really rich people.

But just because I can’t jet away to some tropical locale, no reason I can’t take advantage of the trends and wear them come summer.

I like your picks @marissa – especially chevron and coral!

    1. @Stef – I vacation in the winter! We always go somewhere warm in February. It breaks up the monotony of winter and I swear it’s the only way I manage to make it to spring. And I’m not rich, I swear. ;)

  2. I’m LOVING the big stripes and the chevron pattern! I just came back from a long weekend in Vegas, which was about 20 degrees warmer than home, but since we were doing a lot of walking and it was still a little cool, I kept it casual. I stuck with fuschia moccasins for most of the trip and layers. Bright lipstick was my accessory :) I wish it had been warmer so I could have laid out by the pool, but it was still really fun.

  3. It was WELL below zero here this morning (and that’s zero degrees Fahrenheit for our international readers!) and I’m seriously longing for some sun. (The warm kind of sun, not the sun that glares off of the snow and makes it hard to see.)
Great picks! I’m loving the camp shirts. Bonus- they still look great peeking out from under a sweater!

    1. Below zero!? That makes me shiver just thinking about it @mandaleem!

This winter has been pretty cold by LA standards – with nighttime temps in the mid to low 30’s – which is almost unheard of for the area. It had me dreaming of summer weather and sunny skies – and the clothes to match. Love these picks, especially that chevron bag, so beachy (and it looks gigantic – a must for a beach bag). Also think that striped sweater is super cute – love the pocket and the 80’s feel to it as well.

    2. @Tyna – A temp in the 30’s would be down right balmy! On Mt. Washington it was -75 (you read that correctly, NEGATIVE 75) tonight. It’s billed as being “Home of the World’s Worst Weather” for a reason! Here a few hours south (and a few hundred feet closer to sea level) it’s currently 12 degrees, -2 with the windchill. Brrr!

  4. I always tell myself that one day I will go away during Christmas and spend it elsewhere, somewhere warmer :) I like the idea of spending holidays relaxing somewhere that’s not home and something warm and exciting. Seeing new resort lines give me warm feels earlier in the year, so I can’t complain with that!

  5. Those big stripes are incredibly awesome. To think that it can be achieved at a budget-friendly cost, I can’t think of a better word to best describe it.
