L’Oreal Paris has always been my go-to line for drugstore cosmetics. I love the way I can almost always find L’Oreal alternatives of products featured in their parent company’s pricey department store brands (think Lancôme, Urban Decay, and YSL Beauté). Like many of their products, the new L’Oreal Magic De-Crease Eyelid Primericon is a product that holds its own with high-end counterparts.

L'Oreal Magic Decrease

Magic Decrease Eyelid Primer ($8.95) is designed to prevent creasing on eyelids, and extend eyeshadow wear up to eight hours without fading. It’s compatible with any form of shadow – powder, cream or gloss.

The formula is thicker than some primers, and I was heavy-handed the first time I used it, which actually created creasing. However, my second attempt, with a much lighter application, did the trick. My makeup lasted all day and didn’t crease or fade at all. Even soft pencil eyeliner stayed put long after I’d expect it to fade away or migrate.

The simple tube with sponge-tip applicator is utilitarian in the best sense of the word. Besides getting the job done, the packaging gets extra points for being clear plastic. It’s so nice to be able to see how much is left in the tube.

Magic De-Crease comes in one universal color labeled “nude” that designed to work for all skintones – talk about simplicity! The medium tone may not work for everyone, but should work for many.

Pros:
One universal color takes the guesswork out of color selection
A teeny bit goes a long way
No creasing and less fading
Clear tube lets us keep track of our supply
With the quality of a high-end primer, Magic De-Crease is a bargain at just $8.99

Cons:
The texture is a little thicker than other eye primers, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea

I found the Magic De-crease Eyelid Primer by L’Oreal to be a a high-quality primer at a bargain price. If you’re in the market for a rich (rather than sheer) primer, Magic De-crease is just what you’re looking for!

we heartsters – are you using the magic of eye primers to keep your makeup smooth and bright?

  1. @turboterp – great review! I like having drugstore options especially for things you cannot see like primer. Personally, I only wear primer on special occasions. My skin does not like dimethicone very much, so I try not to push it too much.

Did you know that Loreal is owned by Estee Lauder? Estee Lauder owns MAC, Bobbie Brown, Origins, La Mer and Giorgio Armani – just to name a few.

    1. Not that it really matters but L’Oreal is another one of the giants, not part of Estee Lauder. Estee Lauder does own MAC, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Origins, Tom Ford, Clinique, Smashbox and many others. L’Oreal owns probably just as many Lancôme, Giorgio Armani, Yves St. Laurent, Kiehl’s, Shu Uemura, Urban Decay and Maybelline among many others.

  2. So glad to see a review on this–I’m always in the market for an inexpensive eye primer that performs. CVS, here I come.

  3. Nice! A new drugstore primer. I’d love to give this a try. The only other drugstore one that I have/use is the Wet n’ Wild Fergie one. It’s pretty good but this one has potential too it seems. The logo reminds me of the Project Runway logo for some reason too.

  4. Love that there are so many great drugstore options these days! I’ve been using primers and cream shadows as primer: MAC Paint Pots, Maybelline Color Tattoo cream shadows, Urban Decay Primer Potion, elf eyeshadow primer, Too Faced Shadow Insurance…

  5. Great post @Turboterp!
I am always on the hunt for an eye primer that isn’t too drying and keeps my oily lids at bay..this sounds like it’s worth a try!

  6. @turboterp, nice work! I was waiting for someone to review this. It’s not actually new–L’Oreal had “De-Crease” out years ago and I hoarded a ton of them. Now I see they have revised their formula slightly; I was hooked then and will be hooked now. Love a product that works at a reasonable price!

  7. Hurray for clear tubes!! I don’t know why more cosmetic companies don’t use clear packaging. Not only does it tell me how much product I’ve used but it also tells me when it’s time to go out and buy more!
I like a thicker product. It’s probably all in my head, but I feel like a primer with more substance works better. Not to mention it helps even out the color of my eyelids! (They’re extra dark and blotchy now that it’s allergy season.)

    1. I’m with you @mandaleem; as much as I love cute packaging, I appreciate clear packaging more. Nothing worse than running late, already having a bad day and realizing, to top it all off, you’re all out of XYZ…

I also appreciate a thicker primer. Ive had some high end primers that are thin and sheer but I never feel that I have it on my eye. And if I add more, it doesn’t seem to go on as evenly and feels gunky. Better to be thicker from the get-go, so one swipe and you’re done!

  8. I’ll have to remember this one when I run out of my current (more expensive) eye primer. I am currently using L’Oreal’s Magic Perfecting Base (face primer), the one in the little jar, and I really like it a lot … better than more expensive ones from companies like Bare Minerals and Benefit, too.
