For the Makers box review

There are tons of subscription boxes and bags out there, filled with everything from snacks to high-end beauty items. I’ve had the chance to try a few of these and found one that I consider my absolute favorite. For the Makers is a monthly box full of DIY fun that is also chic. This is far cry from macaroni necklaces or friendship bracelets.

Each For the Makers boxes have a monthly theme and four different projects mirroring that theme. The theme of the box shown here was the Hudson Collection inspired by “long weekends upstate, exploring the Hudson Valley” and included beautiful materials like linen, quartz, cotton, and hematite.

The projects included:
The Rye Market Tote with indigo dye
Silk thread and beads for delicate Hastings Bracelets (I had enough supplies for 4 pieces)
The Saranac quartz necklace
Lavender filled linen Yates Sachets.

When I opened the box, the lavender included for the sachets smelled amazing! While the box gives enough materials to make the base projects, For the Makers encourages adding your own touches.

I added extra touches to my projects by hand embroidering my lavender sachets with flowers and adding my own beads to the ones included in the box.

Throughout each month For the Makers gives advice and tutorials online to help you learn more advanced skills. These projects don’t require advance knowledge in jewelry-making or sewing. They are beginner friendly, but challenging enough for the advanced maker.

For the Makers subscription box A glimpse at my finished projects

For the Makers keeps each box’s theme under wraps but gives sneak peeks and teasers of their monthly inspirations via instagram, including a gorgeously illustrated “lookbook” on their website showcasing the projects once they begin shipping, for those who are less patient. The projects are on trend, taking inspiration from runway, but remaining timeless enough you won’t be tossing your creations before the next season.

For the Makers boxes are an excellent value at $29 a month, including quality materials that purchased alone would surpass the box’s price. I receive my box around the middle of the month which gives me time to do my projects on the weekend and by the time I’m finished it’s time for the next box. Their customer service is excellent. They quickly respond to customer emails and are quick to replace any project materials that may have gotten accidentally missed in the packaging.

I recommend everyone try a month of For the Makers beautiful DIY projects and see if you don’t get hooked into becoming a chic crafter!

  1. I had no idea there were crafty boxes like this–so cool! Your finished projects look so delicate and pretty. I only subscribe to Birchbox so far…

  2. What a cool spin on the “subscription box” trend! I haven’t seen anything like this. Would make an amazing gift for a crafty friend too.

  3. I actually had no idea a crafter’s subscription box existed – but, of course it does! They seem to have boxes for everything lately. I really like the idea of this one though. I consider myself crafty but lazy. So if the supplies just magically showed up at my door I COULD make more things!

  4. Count me in as another one that had no idea this subscription box existed. I love the idea of getting mail filled with goodies every month – but the last thing I need is more makeup – so I never signed up for the beauty ones. Now this is a great idea! A box of fun goodies, a few crafty projects to spend some time upon and you are left with usable items like jewelry and sachets.

And while I like crafty things, I just don’t have the imagination to make my own projects (oh how I wish I did) and For the Makers does that part for you and still lets you add your own unique touches. Super smart and such cute projects – thanks for sharing this with us all @lucylemonade!

  5. I LOVE the idea of a grown up crafty subscription box! I’m one of those crafters who are constantly finding new projects and different kinds of crafting to take up, and then I want to buy ALL THE SUPPLIES EVER, and then I end up with a ton of stuff. This looks like a good way to get a nice sampling of different things to do, without getting overwhelmed.

And your finished products look lovely.

  6. I love mail, crafts and subscription boxes so this is something I would love love LOVE. Unfortunately, I have so many unfinished projects that I don’t know that I could justify getting supplies for more!
Then again…these are small projects, so it’s not like I’m starting a HUGE project again…just fun small ones…right? @lucylemonade, you are an enabler! :-)

    1. A lot of these projects can be done easily over a weekend but I tend to space them out just to have small projects all throughout the month. This month’s theme is called “Champagne Hangover” and I can’t wait to get mine in the mail!
