Dreams come true? It’s possible!
Some New Yorkers are completely jaded by Broadway plays and only consider them a tourist attraction. Me? Never! I love a good play. When I was given the chance to see one of the newer additions to Broadway, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, I couldn’t say no. There’s a charm to seeing a Broadway play as they take you away from the hustle and bustle outside.
This Cinderella play was based on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s fairytale which originated in 1957. It was so wonderful seeing this tale play out right in front of me. Laura Osnes, who played Cinderella, was a perfect princess. She had such a young, delightful spirit to her character; always motivated to make the best of a bad situation. The other characters, Prince Topher, the stepmother and stepsisters, to name a few, were convincing but also delivered a slightly snarky, comical side that was very refreshing. The songs and dances were full of talent from the entire cast.
The sets were gorgeous, as were the costumes. Think big, gorgeous, elaborate gowns all throughout the play. The attention to detail on these gowns is so evident as they danced and sashayed across the stage! I’m guessing you were wondering about Cinderella’s glass slipper? They were designed by Stuart Weitzman, and of course, they were beautiful! They sparkled so much on stage, you really couldn’t miss them.
If you are ever passing through NYC or live here, I highly recommend catching Cinderella. You don’t necessarily have to have kids in tow to enjoy this. It’s a great story about where kindness and positive thinking can take you – and we can all use a refresher on that every now and then!
