A look at the Age Therapy Shampoo, Conditioner and Root Boosting Volumizing Tonic

I discovered the Nuance Salma Hayek beauty line, a CVS exclusive, while browsing the shelves for a new tinted moisturizer. Since picking up my first product, I’ve been back for items from Hayek’s line of cruelty-free hair and skin products inspired by her Grandmother.

I was excited to review the Flax Seed Age Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner, as well as the Root Boosting Volumizing Tonic. They had me interested from the word go as some pregnant women get thick, gorgeous hair because of all those surging hormones. However I got a little of the opposite, which means thinning hair!

The Age Therapy line contains flax seed, faba seed, pea extract, and a thing called tepezcohuite. Tepezcohuite is Mimosa Bark extract that adds body and strength to hair that is weak or thinning. Nuance products are animal-friendly and paraben free. On top of all that they are wallet-friendly as well.

One small thing I love about about Nuance’s Age Therapy line is the shape and elegant appearance of the bottles. I know it’s such a small thing compared to the ingredients but it makes me happy with the soft shades of blue and tapered bottle that allows for easy pick up with wet hands.

I found the Age Therapy Shampoo ($7.99) gave my hair a little thickness along with a nice overall scent. Do not, however, expect this shampoo to have a sudsy lather. That is one of the downfalls of paraben free products. But it did gently and fully clean my hair.

Nuance’s Age Therapy line has a nice scent, somewhere in the middle of fruity and floral but not overpowering. I can’t put my finger on the exact scent but this shampoo and conditioner combination has a lot of fire power inside. The Flax Seed Age Therapy Conditioner ($7.99) however wasn’t a match as I felt it wasn’t hydrating enough for my hair. My guess is that the conditioner is made to be more lightweight to keep from weighing down thinning hair. Those with fine hair should check it out.

The Root Boosting Volumizing Tonic ($12.99) gives my hair a nice boost every day as well as helping to tame the pesky flyaways that are caused by my cozy fleece pillow case. Like the shampoo and conditioner, this tonic is full of more good stuff like keratin, vitamin B-5, and rice bran oil to prevent split ends and breakage. I was even able to keep my curls in shape without using a curling cream.

One of my important factors to purchasing personal care products is finding cruelty-free items that fit into my budget (which can tend to be very small these days.) The discovery of Salma Hayek’s Nuance brand of skincare and haircare products make my life so much easier, especially since I can pick them up at my local CVS.

we heartsters – have you picked up anything from the Nuance Salma Hayek line? What are your favorites?

  1. They , for sure, picked natural effective ingredients in these products, flux seeds is great for skin and hair!

  2. I know what you mean about the packaging, @lucylemonade, it’s a small upgrade but the design can make a big difference on whether or not you like the product!
I don’t use a lot of them, but I do love the few Nuance products that I have. (The nail polish is GREAT, I have Crushed Violet and Deep Orchid and both colors are stunning.) I didn’t realize they were cruelty-free! Looks like I need to add more to my beauty routine…especially since you can get them at CVS, which always has crazy coupons! :-)

  3. I LOVE the Nuance line and am slowly adding to my pile of products: off the top of my head, I know I have an eye shadow quad, the Hydrating Rose Petal Balm, exfoliating body wash, the anti-aging serum, this awesome treatment with honey that you can put on after peels or sunburns…oh, and I just got an eye balm with shea and rose hip oil that I love. Plus,I have the Root Boosting Volumizing Tonic and I really like it. Ooof, reading back over this list shows me I now have a Nuance addiction.

  4. I had no idea that Nuance also had hair products. I was mainly familiar with the makeup and skincare. I have got to get over to CVS and see what else I am missing.

  5. I like the IDEA of this line, because I think it’s adorable that Salma Hayek was inspired by her grandmother because my grandma totally got me into makeup as a little girl! But I’m pretty particular about my shampoo and conditioner. My hair needs a deep clean but it also needs some heavy TLC, and this doesn’t sound like it’s quite right for my hair type.

  6. Love the packaging. I do have thin hair so I wonder how the conditioner would work on me? I’ll have to check it out at CVS…

  7. I’m a huge fan of the Nuance skincare line (I tested several products for wht last year, and purchased all of them when the testers ran out!), and the nail polish is great, too. I can’t believe I didn’t realize there was a Nuance haircare line, too! Your post is sending me straight to CVS at lunch today, @lucylemonade .

  8. There are SO many products in the Nuance line – skincare, haircare, body products, makeup. I especially love My Secret Super Brightening Hand Cream and the Texturizing Sea Salt Spray (I’m totally addicted to the scent.)

  9. Nuance has honestly become my absolute favorite drugstore brand. Period. For everything.
I tried these shampoos after using Biolage Rejuvatherapie for quite awhile. For some reason anti-aging shampoos are the ones my hair is responding to the most. These work every bit as well…I think the rice protein is a common denominator. Oh yes, the price point for Nuance is better. And the bottle is much, much prettier. Who says drugstore brands have to have bad packaging?

  10. I use and like the Volumizing tonic. Like it really well.
The only suggestion I’d like to make is with the design of the bottle. When your hands are wet, trying to squeeze the top can be a challenge!
Very frustrating for me, actually. I have to stop, dry my hands (I know this sounds petty but it’s how I feel)

Just change the shape to fit hands a bit better. >>grin>>> thank you

I also noticed that there is very little “lather” unless you shampoo, rinse, then shampoo a second time. Somehow it doesn’t feel clean unless there are some suds! I do like the shape and size of the bottle, easy to handle with wet hands. Not sure if I would buy this product again mainly for the reason stated above.
