Get That Ocean Glow From Your Landlocked Bathroom
I’ve always been fascinated by anything with a marine theme – mermaids, seaweed, pirates – I can’t get enough of the stuff. Maybe it’s because my name was originally going to be Marina, but at the last minute my parents decided it would be too weird because my dad worked… wait for it… at a marina.
Why am I telling you this random fact? Because I have a new marine-based obsession, Phytomer Oligomarine Flawless-Skin Tonic ($46).
This deceptively simple alcohol-free toner hydrates and removes dirt, oil and makeup, calms skin and diminishes inflammation. As devoted as I am to my skincare routine, toner was my least favorite (and often skipped) step – but this take-it-or-leave-it attitude changed the minute I tried Oligomarine.
Have you ever spent a day swimming in the ocean, and marveled at the way your skin felt afterwards? It’s as if nature gives you a deep-cleaning facial, and the sea salt extracts all the impurities from your skin.
That’s the effect of Oligomarine. Not only does it whisk away traces of makeup my cleanser failed to remove, it leaves my skin soft and soothed, and a tiny bit tightened without feeling dry.
Phytomer aims to harness the benefits of seawater on the skin by creating marine-based products using ingredients extracted through natural procedures. In other words, even if you can’t take regular dips in the ocean, Phytomer’s products can bring the ocean to you.
Phytomer Oligomarine Flawless-Skin Tonic contains a bevy of powerful ingredients such as witch hazel (purifies, tones and tightens pores), Vitamin B3 (improves texture and reduces water loss) and sea salt. EPS AMM (“Absolute Marine Matifier”) gives skin a matte effect without dryness. It works so well, I think AMM should stand for “Absolute Marine Magic.”
I’ve been applying just a little bit on a cotton ball after washing and before moisturizing morning and evening, and my skin looks and feels extra-smooth. Although this product is recommended for oily, combination and blemish prone skin, my normal-to-dry skin is loving it. Even sensitive skin types and contact lens wearers can use Oligomarine without fear.
If you appreciate a multi-tasking product as much as I do, you’ll be happy to know that Oligomarine can also be used as a soothing aftershave and a waterproof eye makeup remover. And it has a light floral scent with an undertone of something wonderfully beach-y.
Now more than ever, I’m a believer in the power of everything marine. Maybe it’s not too late to change my name.
