Nails done, hair done, everything did…

My grandmother Mary had the most magnificent head of hair, a beautiful shock of silver-white. She was meticulous about it too, a home perm every 6 weeks like clockwork and one product that her shower was NEVER without Roux Fanci-Full Color Rinse.

She’d sooner perish that be seen with dull or dingy color, and Roux assured it wouldn’t happen.

I remember asking as a kid “Can I use that?” and her reply “No Steffie, that’s not for you.” But Gram, you were wrong: it IS for me! Ok, maybe not at 10 years old but it sure is now.

Roux has been on the market for 80 years. That’s a long time to be perfecting hair color!

Don’t think for a second though that the Roux line is only about the greys.

True, you can brighten existing grey, add a grey tone or hide pesky grey strands that come peeking in-between color. But check out the other things you can do to your hair (all inexpensively and temporarily):

• Change your hair color, either slightly or dramatically depending on what your existing color is
• Hide your roots in-between color appointments
• Add some pizzaz back into faded color

The two products to do that are Roux Fanci-Full Rinse (available here) and Roux Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse (available here)

Fanci-Full Rinse

Fanci-Full Rinse is a liquid wash that comes in 13 shades.

Fanci-Full Color Styling Mousse offers 11 shades and the added bonus of styling benefits. Both can help to gently even tone, remove brassiness, brighten color, blend away grey or add an overall grey wash. The later was exactly what I wanted to do.

I was so excited to try the current grey trend that we’re seeing everywhere, from celebs to the runway.

My hair is currently what my stylist calls a “sombre” – a subtle ombre with the light-colored ends fading into my natural color at the roots. (The un-fancy term: I’m growing out my color.)

I grabbed Roux Fanci-Full Color Rise in #42 Silver Lining and got to work.

I concentrated the color just at my light tips, from about my eyes down to the ends. The product is super easy to use. A bit messy in the shower, but the color rinsed away easily from both the tile and shower curtain. When I got out, I blowed dried as usual and…

Voilà – my blonde sombre was now a grey sombre! Look at me, all on-trend. Next time I’m going to play around with a longer application time and maybe even applying both #42 and #41, True Steel (a darker grey), to see what kind of results I get.

Seeing as these are only around $7, do absolutely no damage to my hair and wash out with my next shampoo, I look forward to experimenting.

Have you tried Fanci Full full rinse for gray hair?

  1. Oooo, I love it!! It’s definitely nice and subtle, but I bet it looks amazing in that CA sun! I like how it makes your eyes pop, it looks great!

I remember these bottles too, though I only saw them in the store. My super dark hair is too much for this grey trend, but as I’m getting older, I’m eyeing those other dark rinses more and more!

  2. Well that looks sassy! It sounds pretty easy, too…might have to give this a try the next time I feel like playing with my hair because I don’t want the commitment of a permanent dye. Great post and pics, @stef!

  3. Your hair looks so pretty, @stef! I’m going to take that code to Sally Beauty this weekend and see what they have that would work on me!

  4. You look lovely with the grey – I however, just look old. I think I’ll try it for my root touch ups.
