2016 was the year I delved into injectables. And not only am I ok with that, I’m ok with sharing it with all of you! My first experience was with a doctor at a VERY fancy Beverly Hills location (which I was lucky enough to have comped.) But since I had a feeling this would be something I would continue to do (meaning, be paying for myself) I needed to explore more affordable options. Enter Blue Medi Spa.

The key to the absolute brilliance of this place is right in the name: Medi Spa. So, what’s a medical spa? It’s pretty much heaven for your skin! Want a traditional facial? No problem. Need a cortisone shot for a pimple that’s threatening to ruin your week? They can do that. Would you like to do something a bit more advanced like Ultherapy (which uses sound waves to stimulate collagen and lift skin)? Yeah, they’ve got you covered. Their services list is extensive. And impressive!

Conveniently located just over the hill from Hollywood on Ventura Blvd, Blue Medi Spa has been operating for over 10 years and was the first medical spa of its kind. It’s also the largest. Housed in a vintage theater with modern decor in white and shades of blue, the spa is 6,000 square feet with 12 treatment rooms and over 50 specialists on staff. The medi spa is overseen by Dr. Daniel Yamini, a double board-certified surgeon with over 5,000 procedures to his name (and a regular expert on shows like The KTLA Morning Show, Entertainment Tonight and Dr. 90210).

I didn’t see the doctor for my visit (most sessions won’t require it, which is a big reason they’re so affordable). I saw a lovely nurse practitioner by the name of Jane, who I really hit it off with. We discussed what I wanted to do (lip injections) and she helped me decide which one I wanted (Juvederm). I told her, hopefully, that I had heard that they hurt less the second time. She said that wasn’t the case, gave me a comforting smile and a stress ball to squeeze during the procedure. I decide I love Jane.

While we waited for the numbing cream to work we talked beauty, skincare and procedures available; everything from laser treatments for hair removal and vein removal, to body contouring, to injectable wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers…like I was about to get.

After she injected a little over half of the vial into the outline of my lips (which yes, still hurts, but is totally do-able), she showed me the outcome so far and I decided to stop. I wanted subtle results and she delivered exactly that. I loved the extra plumpness in my cupid’s bow and how the filler diminished the vertical lines above my lips. We used the rest of the vial in a weird sleep wrinkle I have in my chin (my words, not hers, I pretty much pass out and stay in the same position all night!)

That one vial of Juvederm costs $500, an amount I will be totally comfortable paying when I visit again. All prices are listed on their website, so there are no surprises. And they give complementary assessment to all first-time customers. But perhaps best of all, they’re open 7 days a week, with same day appointments available.
