I’m an oily gal with a fondness for face masks. I do a mask about twice a week, from the comfort of the beast tub in my master bathroom. The ledge around the tub is jam packed with tubes and jars of masks that I’ve splurged on in the pursuit of better skin. I’ve tried gel masks and sheet masks and cream masks, but I always go back to a clay mask. They just work the best for my oily, temperamental skin. The latest addition to my face mask collection is the Tuél Detox Clay Mask .

Tuél is one of the leading natural skin care companies. Founded over 30 years ago, this brand delivers high performance botanicals and formulations designed to give you your best skin. Tuél’s products can be depended on to be natural, plant-based and free of synthetics, all to restore and improve your skin’s health.

I’ve tried gel masks and sheet masks and cream masks, but I always go back to a clay mask.

I’ll be honest; I was of the opinion that most clay masks were created equal. The basic ingredient doing all the heavy lifting in a clay mask is usually kaolin clay, which seems pretty…basic.

Tuél went further and added sulfur and zinc oxide, two ingredients that are known acne slayers. Sulfur helps kill acne-triggering bacteria and zinc oxide dries blemishes out, almost like magic. Those ingredients with kaolin clay are a hard core acne fighting combination that purge your skin of impurities. But Tuél isn’t done–they’ve also added aloe and vitamin E to soothe skin. The end result is a highly effective, yet gentle face mask that doesn’t irritate your skin (my sensitive skin was so grateful).

The mask is packaged in a shallow, plastic jar that you will easily get every last bit of product out of that jar with zero waste. I used it with a small flat bristle brush to make application even easier. You get 2.5 ounces of product for $48, which is reasonable to me if it delivers results–and it does!

The mask itself smells slightly herbal and medicinal—most clay masks have a similar smell. I brushed the mask onto my face and neck and let it dry. It took about 10 minutes for this mask to fully dry on me. Once the mask was dry, I rinsed it off with warm water and continued with my nightly skin care routine (gentle face wash and whatever night cream I happen to be favoring that week).

I will note that since this “purges impurities”, be prepared for some breakouts after the first couple of uses. I don’t know about you, but a lot of times when I start using an acne-clearing skin care product, it gets a bit worse before it gets better. However, by the third time I used this, I noticed that I had fewer blemishes than usual. By the fourth time, I noticed that my blemishes were healing much faster. By the fifth time I used this (at a rate of 2x a week), my skin is noticeably better. Less than 3 weeks to noticeably better skin is pretty fabulous in my book!

I’m loving this mask, y’all. I mean, I love a lot of face masks, but this is officially my favorite clay mask (and I’ve tried dozens in my lifetime). I can’t wait to try more from this brand!

Have you tried anything from Tuél? Are you a face mask junkie? What’s your favorite mask? I want to hear all about it!
