Have you picked it yet? The Urban Decay Naked Cherry Collection

“Sultry and ripe for the picking”

Many of us are still in mourning from Urban Decay’s announcement that they were discontinuing their original Naked palette. (Or, you stockpiled it!) You know, that magnificently beautiful, chocolate-brown-velvet-enrobed palette that brought us to our knees eight years ago. It’s the palette that launched hundreds (if not thousands) of knockoffs by every makeup company under the sun.

It’s been my Holy Grail palette for years, and even friends who claim they ‘aren’t into makeup’ found themselves drawn to the easy-to-use and perfectly pigmented shadows, like sailors hearing a siren’s song.

But Urban Decay aimed to lessen the blow by releasing their Urban Decay Naked Cherry Collection, including the juiciest piece: the Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette ($49), as well as a coordinating cheek palette, lipsticks, eyeliners and cherry-scented setting spray.

If you’re giving the Naked Cherry eye shadow palette some side eye, you’re not alone. The first reaction of the general population is probably going to be “I can’t wear red-ish eyeshadows, because it makes me look sick.” I understand your hesitation to immediately throw these berry pigments on your peepers, especially coming off the heels of a universally flattering set of shades like the original Naked palette.

BUT trust us, this curated set of shadows is way more sultry than sickly!

See?

The Naked Cherry eyeshadow palette is versatile enough for work, a romantic night out, or anywhere your wild heart wants to go. As the weather gets cooler, this deep cherry inspired take on a neutral palette is perfect to add a little warmth. The pigmentation and blendability is good, (although not quite as epic as the original Naked palette, but those are some big shoes to fill). The darker shades (the right half of the palette) are somewhat similar and using several of them at once can make your look a little muddy. So, be sure to combine shadows from both the left half and right half to create some definition.

The other items in the Naked Cherry Collection are beautiful, particularly when paired with the eyeshadow palette. Two new shades of 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($21) were added to the lineup–Love Drug, a metallic deep wine, and Black Market, a black satin pencil.

There’s also three new shades of Vice Lipstick ($18) were added–Juicy, a light peachy pink with copper microshimmer; Devilish, a berry pink with tonal microshimmer; and Cherry, a deep berry wine cream.

I especially love the Naked Cherry Highlight and Blush Palette ($34), which contains a blush, a highlighter, and an iridescent ‘complexion topper’. The shades can be blended together too. The blush is not as pigmented as most UD blushes, but it can be built up nicely. The iridescent complexion topper is gorgeous (I’m obsessed!) and the highlighter is lovely on the browbone as well on cheeks.

As for the Cherry version of UD’s The All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray ($15 for 1 oz), who wouldn’t want a burst of cherry-scented freshness while you’re setting your makeup? It promises to keep your makeup looking fresh for up to 16 hours, just like the original.
