Bioderma, how I love thee; let me count the ways. You let me wash my face from the comfort of my cozy bed. I don’t have to hover over the sink with tedious washing and rinsing. You make my face makeup and oil free, yet never tight or dry.
Bioderma hails from Lyon, France, and was the 1st independent laboratory that catered to French dermatologists. The company claims it’s the brand most frequently prescribed by doctors (although no prescription is required) and that one of their cleansing water formulas is sold throughout the world every 5 seconds!
I have been using Sebium H2O for years for its ease and the way it makes my skin feel. Formulated for oily or combination skin, it’s used to regulate sebum and purify the epidermis. So I was excited to try Sensibio H2O, their version for sensitive, normal and dry skin types. Like Sebium, Sensibio cleansing water is soap free, non-foaming and no rinsing is required. It’s also fragrance-free, alcohol-free and paraben-free.
The water has micelles to soak up the dirt, pollution and oil that we accumulate throughout the day. What are micelles, you ask? “Micelles are molecules that are made of fatty-acid esters,” explains Bernard Pochic, Montreal-based national trainer for Bioderma. (their micelles are of natural origin and are extracted from sugar.) “When you use a cleansing pad, the micelles deploy,” he says. The composition of the molecules makes them brilliant at trapping and gobbling up makeup, dust and pollution.
The company recommends to pat dry after applying the water with a cotton pad, but I do not feel the need. The solution is very soothing and refreshing. I like the idea of a quick swipe with a cotton pad, and on those lazy nights in front of Game of Thrones, this does the trick! It even handles my sensitive eye area.
Unlike many other toners, the skin is left moist and supple with no pulling or tightness. It cleanses thoroughly, but does not strip the skin, a claim most toners make, but often fail to deliver.
Every major makeup artist has a bottle or two of Bioderma in their kit (including me). Give it a try and I think you’ll see that the reasons are evident!
