Etsy 4 for Friday – comic edition

This week I had a number of Etsy 4 for Friday ideas swirling around in my head, but once Alyssa shared her comic book love with our readers (make sure to check out her chicks guide to comics and comic suggestions), the theme was clear. Comics, graphic novels, the funny pages – no matter what you call them; you know what you can expect – vivid colors and dramatic graphics that grab the eye. Those eye catching colors and illustrations lend well to all sorts of fashion, home wares and paper goods; and Etsy is bursting with comic related fun for everyone – even if the only comics you read are free in the Sunday paper.

• I have been searching for little pieces of art for around my desk space at home and this “Oh #!&$, not again” print would crack me up every time I find an embarrassing typo on wht (or we lose a weeks worth of content). This image is a print from the original painting using rich dye based inks, so “all of the wonderful mistakes found in the original can be found in the print as well.” Print is signed and dated on the front and measures 5 x 7 (and centered on an 8.5 x 11 piece of archival paper for easy matting) $18

• Stef has a comic tote bag that I’ve coveted for years, but this little clutch, a Handmade Frame Pouch is even cuter! It’s made with a “quality Japanese quilt weight fabric”, featuring a modern and sophisticated hued comic centered around a heroine waiting for the phone to ring. This clutch has a bit of padding to help keep it’s shape and a contrasting interior of blue with pink flowers. It would be adorable for carrying money, your id and a cell phone (it fits an iPhone) and maybe a gloss too, when you are traveling light. $19.90

• I’m pretty much a comic newbie, but I have to say, this is one of the coolest items I’ve seen yet on Etsy. The Comic Initial Monogram would make a great accessory in almost any room in the house, most especially on a bookcase or desk. It is totally customizable – you can pick the letter, the color of the block and the featured superhero – then piece of pi studio creates the monogram using a “gallery quality deep box canvas (no sharp edges) and genuine vintage comics.” The comic graphics are also used to trim the four box edges – no need for a frame! Monogram measures 6x6x1.25 and is sealed with a protective glossy finish; created with all non-toxic paints and varnishes. $65

• Comic lover or not, almost every chick I know would want to store treasures in this cheeky Romance Comic Adorned Round Box. If you have a bachelorette party to attend, our featured box “Secrets of Young Brides” would make an inventive gift wrap (and may soon be a beloved treasure chest). Box is handmade and covered with pages from a romance comic. The wooden box has a hinged lid and a latch to close. (This Etsy shop, the Fangirls make custom orders as well.) $27

  1. I’m loving all of these (As if I wouldn’t…), but especially the Romance Comic box! I am also a fan of stuff I can put more stuff into, so I have a slight obsession with cute boxes, containers, etc.

I also love that if you look at the link, the inside seems to reveal the “Secret” of the “Young Bride.” :-)
